A close friend was just in a bad car accident in Montana and they're airlifting him to Seattle, where I live. The word is that he sliced his thoracic aorta. He hasn't been admitted yet and I don't have any other news.
He's a strong Christian and he and his fiancee have been working with YWAM for the last few years. If you're of the praying persuasion, please pray for him.
Thanks
Update 2/25 12:10 am
Thanks for the prayers all. He's now in ICU on a respirator but he did make it to Seattle. His fiancee, who was in the car, only suffered minor injuries.
Update 2/25 9:25 AM, he's still in the trauma ICU in critically stable condition. His mom is in Seattle now, and I'll be heading over to the hospital shortly to see what support and/or help I can offer.
Update 2/25 11:45 PM
Thanks for all the prayers. He still has a torn aorta, so they're keeping his blood pressure down. I spent a good portion of the day with him and his family. He's not awake yet. Lacerations to the liver, kidneys and scalp, six broken ribs, a broken C2 vertebra. He's going to be in the ICU for a good long while.
His fiancee made it to Seattle today. (She was in the car with him but suffered only minor injuries.) It's a bit stressful there because she's 19, doesn't have a whole lot of self-awareness or emotional control in this situation. She isn't especially good at including his family (their second time meeting her) and didn't realize, when his blood pressure jumped as she talked to him, that the best course would have been to leave the room or be quiet rather than put him at risk. It's going to be a long couple of days til he wakes up.
Update 2/27 1:30 PM
No change in condition really at this point. They drained a bunch of fluid from around his lungs so he's breathing a bit better.
Update 2/28 4:15 PM
Matt had a collapsed lung last night, so they wound up putting chest tubes in to suction out more of the gunk. He's more stable again now, on lower oxygen today, but it was a pretty rough night.
