Request for Canon Inc to remove the embedded microchip in their new cartridges

From what I understand, there are no active components in the tanks - just some sort of level sensing contacts. I'm interested in finding out what they are actually doing. Has anyone disassembled a tank to find out what's really in there?
. But that petition won't likely go far - the technology doesn't prevent third parties from cloning it or finding ways around it to allow refilling w/o the hassle. Especially with signatories
like the third one there now.
. The creator of the petition probably doesn't even know what is actually in there.

Canon is very smart about how they did this, you see they are a big company and can buy large volumes of the microchips for their official carts. Smaller third party vendors won't bother with it cause they don't have the upfront money to invest and they don't sell enough to make there investment back.
