Request for books on the railroads

I have an interest in learning about the history of railroads from about 1900 to current.

Primarily in the US. But a book on the US/Canada railroads is also fine. I don't care about European history.

I want it to include a discussion on the current state of railroads in the US.

A discussion of consolidation and deregulation of the railroads is also desired.

Discussion of finance is a big plus.

Any suggestions are appreciated. Hoping to buy soon.

I got rid of a box of books that were my mom's, and there was a large coffee-table sized books on the American Railroad.

Lots of "texty-words and historical mumbo-jumbo" and TONS of pics, B&W, color, and colorized.

but...it went into a box of books donated to some charitable organization.

I don't remember who the publisher was, but she had tons of stuff from some Smithsonian Collection or something like that.
