Hullo lads. 'Tis me first post, but I've been lurking for a long while. Haven't had need to post until, so....Aye.

*Achem*

No matter how much I prodded Google with a stick, I could not procure a piece of software, that would allow me to rename multiple files, in multiple sub-folders, according to a list.

I've got over 180 folders, that have, on average, 2,000 different sound files in each of them. The thing is, the sound files are recordings of dialogue; many of them have the same file name and same dialogue, but done by a different voice actor.

So, rather than re-listen & rename a file, only to learn that I've already renamed the same dialogue under a different voice actor, I'd love to have the changes automated.

As an example, the software would look for a text-file-list-type-thing, that has numerous entries that read something like "[da05_dunbl_dunbloatedmansg_00095678_1.wav] [We have to hurry, this way!.wav]".

It would then search all the sub-folders for the first file name, and for each result, it would replace it with the second file name.

So yeah, any software like that?

I'd much rather not have to go through, err, 360,000 individual sound files (many of which have the exact same filename and dialogue). I'd only do that if I was getting paid £57.62 an hour.

Tah in advance.

No. That is just an expensive equivalent of Bulk Rename utility, which looks for the same string out of selected files.

That's too much of a pain; I have to keep re-entering the file names to be changed, and what to change them to, over and over again.

Basically, this is what I'd imagine the software would be like:

File -> Load FindList
File -> Load ReplaceList
File -> Set Search Directory
Search -> Enable Searching Subdirectories
Search -> Search And Replace
"Really search and replace "dir1\dir2"?"
Click "yes"
Wait for files to be renamed.

Is there really nothing like that?

Erm, you aren't saying just how you would replace it.
If you have a file named: "[da05_dunbl_dunbloatedmansg_00095678_1.wav] [We have to hurry, this way!.wav]" then what would it end up looking like?

P.S, why aren't you using tags in the wav file itself to identify who/what it is?
Having a file name like that is ..well, not optimal.

specifically, get version 2.

edit:

alternatively, learn how to use .bat files.

I'll check that program out, tah.

As for bat files, I couldn't find much in the way of renaming files according to a list.

Edit: I couldn't find anything about loading lists. The program just seems like Bulk Rename Utility, but with a more organized appearance.

Erm, you aren't saying just how you would replace it.

The file is named "da05_dunbl_dunbloatedmansg_00095678_1.wav"

It would be changed to "We have to hurry, this way!.wav"

There are no tags in the .wav files. The only way to identify the files, that have the same lines, is by the file name.

2nd Edit: Boy do I feel stupid. Bulk Rename Utility already has this function. File -> Import Rename-Pairs.

Each line in the text file, has the text to be replaced, followed by what to change it to. The pair of entries are separated by a | symbol. E.g:

da05_dunbl_dunbloatedmansg_00095678_1.wav|We have to hurry, this way!.wav

Glad to hear that Bulk Rename Utility does what you want.

P.S. Your olden-days scottish accent seems to be dying more with each post :awe:

My dearest fellow, you must surely be mistaken, my Scottish accentry of yore has always been in effect! Might mineself recommend thineself a sip of one's own nightcap, and a good night of rest, lest you delve deeper into thine own delusions?

Or no', wha'ever. Ah've got fields ta tend tae.
