My battery's dead. Have the laptop running on AC power, plug the battery in and the laptop goes dead. even the AC adapter turns off. take the battery out, plug the AC adapter back in, and the system turns on again.

mabye someone can call up Dell and order me a replacement? I don't mind shipping you my old battery to send back to Dell. It's a BATDWOOL 12-cell battery.
(my laptop's 2 months out of the one year replacement policy that Dell offers on batteries.)
 
Nope, been reading on Dell.com forums about a lot of laptops doing this.

has something to do with the battery controller inside the battery shorting out and making the power supply turn off.

this battery definately needs to be replaced.
