Repugs going after child labor laws

So child labor laws were some of the earliest of what is considered socially progressive legislation in the U.S. In the early 20th century, no surprise that they were resisted by mainly southern states. Anyway, that is how far back conseratives are going with this:

Parental consent no longer required for under 16's to work in Arkansas.

Who is paying Sanders and key repugs in the Arkansas legislature to pass something like this?

I worked over 40 hour weeks in high school from 1969 to 1972. Not sure there were any labor laws restricting work hours for teens at that time in south Georgia.

A lot of sketch shit went on in this country during that period. We've progressed since then. And we're trying to not revert.

Ohman… my father & a partner owned three service stations in Syracuse when he retired from the Air Force back in 1974. He taught me how to drive illegally at 15 so I could open one of the stations on Saturday and Sunday morning so he could sleep in.

Can’t imagine how that would go over now…

I doubt you were doing that at 12. The new law removed the requirement for proof of age under 16.

IMO: Arkansas wants to be able for companies to hire underage undocumented workers. There is already a case in a state where a 14 year old undocumented was working nights in slaughterhouses which is illegal federally.

At the same time, they will bitch about the southern border.

Not sure why you would doubt the veracity of what I posted or where you came up with me being 12 years old at the time. I started working part time at a local grocery store when I was 13 as a bag boy. Yes we bagged groceries and actually took them out to people's cars. By the next year I was getting out of school at 1 pm to go to work, and worked until up to 9 pm each weeknight and then from 8 am to 9 pm on Saturdays. By age 16 I had become an assistant butcher and had a day off each week. Anyway I was not aware of any child labor laws at the time preventing me from working those hours and it was my choice and a good experience.

I was only using 12 as an example. The new law does not require age verification for a 12 year old

See post above me. I didn’t know it at the time but sounds just like another state they are covering g for greedy corporate owners so they can take advantage of kids. In a lot of cases the undocumented. They won’t squeal exhausted of deportation threat. If they lose some they can always get others

How any self-proclaimed Republican lives with themselves is beyond me. I wonder what it's like to be proud of the plain fact that you are one of the shittiest humans to have ever lived, and exist like that on a daily basis?

Hiring children means the kids are much easier to keep in line while paying them dirt cheap wages, keeping them dumb as rocks and indentured to the companies that scare and threaten them to keep their traps shut about being abused and exploited. Pretty much slave labor, especially if the kids are undocumented.

It's a sure bet that the Repub's chummy business associates are prodding them to pass lax child labor legislation for fun and profit.
