The 14th Amendment is the Civil Rights Amendment, and I believe one day gay marriage bans will be found in violation of this great amendment. Guess who wrote and pushed for this amendment over 140 years ago, the Republican Party. So they can thank them self when it is used to overturn the bans on gay marriage.

Not the party then has much to do with the party now.

maybe instead of trying to tell idiots the right spot for P&N trolling, we should try to reverse psych them and tell them that this is the perfect place for such discussion.

The state should not be involved in how people structure their relationships.
I want a marriage ban...gay marriage, straight marriage...everything.

That being said gay people shouldn't care about a mere title and straight people shouldn't be telling gay people what they can or can't do.

In all fairness, the Republican party of Lincoln is now the Democratic party.

I'm all for getting rid of marriages as well. Legal unions for all, 2 partners max, and if you want to give it the title "marriage" so be it.

Of course, that'll never happen as long as 100% of our politicians believe in god.

Refresh my recollection-we are talkng about the Republican Party whose predomination calls to action are "God, Guns & Gays," right? They are going to completely reverse the last decade or so of vehement opposition to gay marriage? Sure.

The modern GOP has absolutely nothing to do with the radical party of Lincoln other than the same name.

Sexuality preferences have nothing to do with marriage.

Personally, I say let gays get marriage. The lawyers would have a field day in divorce court. Gay people would be able to sue for support. They would know real pain when they have to pay lawyers and the court system when they split up. I think it is the perfect punishment.

I think that's the best solution. For legal things, you and your partner (of whichever sex you like) have a "civil union". If you want to get married, you can do so in a church, but the government won't officially recognize it as anything.

The funny part is, among my group of friends, both conservatives and liberals are big on this solution. I know I'm relatively young, but I can't imagine there is a huge group of people out there who would be up in arms about it. Or at least I can't imagine what kind of people would be.

Yep, in those days the republican party was the party of bleeding-heart liberals.

Lincoln was guided by the Bible, which you'd know if you read any of his letters and other writings. The left is guided by their own sin and hatred for all things spiritual. Claiming Lincoln would be one for your side would make him roll in his grave. Go read some LIncoln's letters to the South on slavery. It has enough Bible references to make every liberal on this forum tell him "I agree with you on the slavery thing, but you realize God is dead, right?? Plz stop posting, you're making us look bad..."
