Arnold's a tight-wad. Maybe that's what California needs. OTOH, the next Governor of our esteemed state will likely be a sacrificial lamb...

Yes, Simon was the greater of the two evils but Davis wasn't much better. He apparently got run over by a bulldozer...California has so many problems I wonder if they can even be fixed...

I don't know anything about him. What will he do as far as taxes, prop 13, prop 209, deregulation, tort reform etc?

Is he running? Where does he stand on issues?

print magic money?

maybe do some enron style accounting?

oh, make painful cuts just like unpopular davis?

the republicans want to rearange the deck chairs on the titanic.

its a shameful waste of time. can't get elected fairly, so obstruct government instead:p

Heh heh... this isn't exactly what I had in mind, but I am glad everyone had good discussion about my question!
And also, if Arnold is elected Gov., I don't think the weight of all those millions of robots will help our chances of not falling off into the ocean! :D

How bout getting rid of wasteful spending, eliminating corrupt fat cat politicians. He's a fresh face and will bring a new perspective into the office quite unlike those other career politicians that are ruining California now.

Isn't recalling a governor part of the government process? It'll probably back-fire on them at some point with it being such a liberal state, but recalling is working within the system, not like a walk-out in Texas. :p

Yup, it's not just Republicans trying to recall Davis, it's also teachers and others who are being affected by his tax cuts. Cuts do need to be made, but I think education is probably one of the last areas (next to emergency medical care) that should be affected. But from what I've been hearing (and admittedly I don't follow politics as mucha s some), those areas are where a lot of cuts are taking place.

One of the reasons I dislike Davis is due to the way the energy crisis was handled. It was VERY obvious at the time that the crisis was either entirely fabricated or was streteched way out of proportion by the energy companies at the time. IIRC at one time they had approximately 33-40% of CA's generators offline at the same time for "routine maintenance", of course the level of off-line generators remained at about that percentage for MONTHS.

Not only ruining Ca but the whole country.Ca with all it's problems is still the best state in the country to live in (despite what Morons from Texas say) I could imagine living in a sh!thole like Texas or Michigan. This is not a rant from a current Californian as I am from Mass.

What's Arnold going to do... summon the national guard and invade Hawaii, steal the pineapples and sell em to the Idahoians? Now if his wife ran... we'd be talking about someone with vision... not an eliteist egomaniac... LaRouche is better a candidate for California than Arnold. I can just see it ... give the wealth in Ca. tax cuts and the poor the shaft... that will kick start the economy... Cut all services and increase the tax cut.. abolish corporated tax thus allowing the reduction in the franchise tax board staff and save the money for more tax cuts for the wealthy.

Here's a very good article on Gray Davis.

Mr. None of the Above

:D

"I have only one skill?I can pick weak opponents."
- the words of Gray Davis himself!!! :p

"His lack of charisma is refreshing."
- the new republic

"Gray doesn't really have any friends. He has supporters. His friends are his supporters."
- an anonymous davis associate

Yet California students lag behind Alabama students in Reading.

Just giving a reason for the poor scores, but its still not acceptable. So yes it is an excuse.

Now again why's Alabama doing so bad? Oh you don't want to say that the Alabama education system is a POS, or that the people are just stupid do you? Thats a shame, can't accept the facts. Hey, at least you're not the worst, just as your article points out! Be proud! Alabama's 4th and 8th graders can can read better than California's. Wooo!!!! lol.

I think you should understand that I am not exactly proud of it. You seem to have a fragile ego about it all...knowing that I don't think either state has a good education system. As for why Alabama has a POS system? Lack of money for the schools, low income families, and a powerful teacher's lobby that prevents teacher testing and certification. Do you have a better excuse than to just blame some random minority? Pretty sad.

Boy you people have an inferiority complex. You just can't accept it when you get beat at something even if it is lackluster all around. BTW, UA, AU, UAB, etc are very good schools. UAB has a top med program, UA has a top law program, and AU is great for AG and Vets. Their other programs are pretty damn nice too.

Ohhhhh right right right. I see, lack of funding, low income families, and a powerful teacher's lobby. I'm sure these are problem thats plague just Alabama. Gee, this isn't stuff thats rampant in essentially every state. No way. lol.
rolleye.gif
Not proud of it? Hmm, odd, you were proud enough to post how 4th and 8th graders are better at reading than California! Wheee!!! You were so kind to point that out and provide an article... guess you wanted to because ummm.... just because? After all, these two grade levels and this subject is a great measure of a state's education system.

Blaming a minority? lol. I don't blame minorities, theres still no real reason they shouldn't be able to succeed (in fact they still do). But it does affect the scores nevertheless.

And before you start talking about someone inferiority complex I think you should check out your own. No one ever brings up dear ol' Alabama, especially probably since most of us don't know jack sh*t about it. Yet in many threads you always have to make your comments about California and point out its problems. Please kindly refrain from doing so, you don't know anything about it.

Nice strawmen and fallacies, but it still doesn't change the fact that with 50 Million plus people you have a sh!tty school system.

So w/ 50 million people California has has an overcrowded and even more underfunded school system. Alabama, you know the massive population there... it's just so hard to keep the school system up to date. Yup.

lol. I give up. Refusing to answer the questions by simply calling it a strawman argument. If you want to spout out stuff next time back it up insteading of running away, you'll learn something then. You refuse to open your mind. I don't really give a damn what Alabama has or has not, but PLEASE remove your hatred of California.
