Republicans had better not stray too far to the right...

The Democrats lost the election because the party was headed too far to the left. I'm a moderate Democrat and I was getting sick and tired of their liberal attitude. I think that maybe this loss might be good for us and maybe we can find a middle ground.

Anyway, so it looks like the Republicans are on the verge of doing what the Democrats have been doing. It looks like they might be going too far to the right by attacking abortion, homosexuals, the media and other issues facing America. Plus the Religious right will have influence on Bush.

So Bush and the Republican Party had better thread cautiously. With a minority population creeping up in numbers and Hillary Clinton eyeing the 2008 Presidential elections the Republicans might be in the same position the Democrats are now in.

If abortion is attacked then Hillary is going to have the ammunition she needs to maybe reach the White House. I can just imagine Hillary getting 90% of women voters. She'll simply state that women rights are being attacked.

Tec, I think you're right. As conservatism has grown in numbers and power, so has the extreme-right. The extreme-right doesn't quite alienate the mainstream to the degree the extreme-left does, but it's definately something to consider.

Here's something to chew on though, if abortion is not overturned in this country that will be extremely discouraging to the Evangelical and religious right crowd. They want Bush to do this, and the reason they went out and voted in large numbers was because there is a good chance of accomplishing this. I think if it is not done, it will be incredibly discouraging for them and they may not vote in large numbers ever again. I mean, a chance to appoint 2 SC judges, full control of Congress, and a Rep. president. If they don't get it done now it will never get done.
