I could see Trump quitting if he thought he was going to lose. Cut his losses, walk away without a loss under his belt.
I think Trump likes being president, I don't think he likes the job of being president.

I think Trump likes the prosecutorial immunity that comes with being President—I don’t think he ever gave a fuck about the job of being President.

Secret Service protection must also be nice when you're in debt to the Russians. Even better when the Secret Service pays you to protect you at your own resorts.

Carville said that someone needs to have a man-to-man, or a come to Jesus meeting with Trump about his chances.

That would be like trying to have a conversation with a 3 year old who is in the middle of a complete meltdown tantrum.

Trump the mercurial slithering serpent who can with aplomb, lie his way out of the previous lies he's told or obfuscate them out of existence with experienced ease still has the overwhelming backing of the party he leads.

That alone speaks to the necessity of the Dems having to never let down their guard, never underestimate what Trump and his party will do in the days leading up to Trump's reelection bid. The Repubs will find new and clever ways to misinform, to suppress and disenfranchise the voting process in their favor, to beguile Trump's opponents into complacency, to plant the seeds of fear and hatred anew, to divide and conquer as never before.

I think I could teach that screaming toddler physics before Trump could even get a book opened up, and that would require me to learn more about physics than I currently know.

Trump isn't backing out. This rumor is just part of the strategy the Trump campaign is using to encourage low Democratic turnout.
This. Tell them it's "in the bag" and watch people get lazy

I don’t think he ever gave a fuck about the job of being President.
Not while he was still running, then it was just an ego thing for himself. He loved the adulation he got from his rallies and all the praise from Faux News in particular (free of charge too, so double the fun there). He seemed set on losing though and also prepared to whine endlessly about how he was cheated out of a sure win, but after he actually won it seemed to take the air out of him briefly.

He appeared sullen and overwhelmed during his tour of the WH with then-President Obama, and there wasn't much enthusiasm early on in my opinion. Then it seemed to dawn on him that being addressed as "Mr. President" by everyone, having military staff saluting him as soon as he approached, a button that brought him Cokes Light, two scoops of ice cream vs. everybody else's one scoop... (Because he's just THAT special.)

I think he thinks being Prez is pretty damn good! And AF1 is much bigger than his ratty old plane too. Not enough leaf gilding, but that can be fixed. Maybe in his second term...

Yes, I feel like the only way we may avoid continued descent is if somehow the Democrats don't just beat the Republicans in November, but obliterate them. If there is a total massacre of Trump and the people who enabled him over the last four years it's possible. (POSSIBLE) that next time Trumpism rears its ugly head that elected officials will think twice before abdicating their duty to their country.
We need to do what Germany did after the war and outlaw Nazis.
But we'd have to define American Nazis first, and I dont know how to do that.

No way that happens. Far too proud to admit that.
And he'll claim he was torpedoed, that he would have won if the election had worked as designed, i.e. honestly. He'll go down depraved, same way he allegedly served. Craven. Plus, this won't happen on Nov. 4. It will drag out. In fact because of the mail in balloting the election may not be decided for weeks after Nov. 3. Just a mish mosh of madness going into the new year. Am I sure of all this? No. But I can see this happening now.

Honestly, Pence would be bad for the Democrats. I think he might win back some of the "normal" GOPers who hate Trump and will not vote for him.

He might, but he's about as inspiring as a wet bag full of socks. Unfortunately so is Biden, this is a bad year to trot out an ancient mummy of a candidate when (IMO of course) we REALLY need to get rid of any trace of what Trump has "built" (I think of it as a residue sort of like what the Zerg spread in Starcraft.).

He'd get some of those rare birds back--the "reasonable Conservatives"--that might have sat on their hands this election, but he'll lose many of the angry white people who swallowed up Trump's lying fear-mongering like a ten-dollar hooker. Pence is samey-old politician, Trump was new and exciting.

Biden's different from Pence majorly. He'd KO him in the first round of a debate, have him on the ropes and down for the count in 45 seconds. Yeah, he can get pissed. You can't expect him to exude charisma after 8 years as VP and 4 more on the sidelines, but he's no pansy.

But why not make an exception and crack open the mail in ballots first thing in the morning and start counting immediately. Just sequester the results until polls close.

I think Trump likes being president, I don't think he likes the job of being president.

I wouldn't rule it out, but he's also accusing polls of being fake, so he may live in denial right up until the end. That and I think he realizes that the presidency may be the only thing keeping him out of court (and possibly prison), so he may have to take that gamble.

Can you imagine what would happen if he did quit before November, though? Never mind whether or not Pence would be a viable candidate -- picture the mad scramble to switch gears for the Republican campaign, and the chaos it'd sow in party support. If you were a Trump supporter, would you back Pence purely because he basked in Trump's glow, or feel like you'd been shortchanged?

If he did drop out, the Trumpards would just write him in still instead of voting Pence.

Or would he have the gall to demand that Don Jr take his place?

Trump isn't going to quit, if he was why is he (and the rest of his minions) spending so much energy bashing mail-in voting?

I don't know the ins and outs but saw an interview last night on TV network news of the woman who runs Washington's mail in ballot system, has done so for several years. They have extensive mail in balloting, in fact I believe it's for everyone. She was convincing in saying that we're way behind the curve in getting this up and running across the nation and if you read between the lines you see that it won't get done successfully. It's just too complicated and very expensive to boot. I think they should do everything they can to get it working as well as possible. She said that congress' help is necessary, likely because of the extensive funding that's required.

This. Tell them it's "in the bag" and watch people get lazy

Agree...If Trump loses the election, he has many people, organizations, or things to blame...
.
The Democrats. The media. COVID-19. The “deep state”. “Disloyal” former employees. “Black Lives Matter.” Voter “fraud”. “RINOs.” Political correctness. Twitter and other social media And so forth. The list would be long. If he steps down, he doesn’t have anyone to blame.

Still, I could still see some scenarios where he might quit:

If the Republicans show less loyalty to him than he expects of them, I can see him announcing on or just before election day that he has it on good authority that the election is rigged and for his supporters to stay home. This way he doesn’t lose because he is unpopular, but because he didn’t compete. This will also harm the Republicans, which will be his revenge on them and it could be the impetus to start his MAGA TV network afterwards.

It’s in his personality to take his ball and go home. This is the same guy who said that declaring bankruptcy was like a sport in the 90’s. But unless and until Vladimir Putin no longer wants him dancing, he’s gonna dance. It's still not clear on why, but it's almost certain it has to do with extremely large loans from Russian oligarchs.

OMG... I had a dream this happened, that Trump got depressed and dropped out. But then again, I also had a dream I could wave my arms and fly like a bird. Besides, WHY would Donald drop out when as he claims EVERYTHING IS JUST PEACHY. There is no virus, there is no Russian collusion, there is no bigotry or racist in America, there is only Donald Trump and Trump world is doing just peachy. Peachy Peachy Peachy !!!!

I don’t know, I am starting to believe this is possible.
After Trumps failed MAGA rally and cancelling others out of low attendance fears, I am beginning to believe this could happen. The President NEEDS people to fawn over him and shower him with praise.

I completely agree, but I think it will be far more than a MAGA TV network, it will be the MAGA Political Party. Trump will split the Republicans if he feels that they are not supporting him enough.

Some Russian Oligarch will give OAN a ridiculous amount of money to pay the then former President the biggest salary in history plus be able to keep some simply to allow the Useful Idiot to keep working for Russia without knowing it.
The President is such an extreme Narcissist and has such extreme greed he will never say no nor be capable of reflecting and saying maybe I don’t need this, maybe the Country needs me to be quiet.

Only fail point will be the President will do it like Oprah does. He will appear for a few weeks, then he will get bored of all the prep work and he will stop showing up and delegate all the work to some boring moron.

I have a feeling Pence might be free for that.....
