In the end blame doesn't matter, since Democrats want and need a budget resolution more than Republicans. The old saying of "you can achieve great things if you don't care who gets the credit" would work perfectly for the GOP in this case if you just adjust it to be "you can accomplish great things if you don't care if the other side tries to blame you." The military and other "core" government functions as envisioned by conservatives will continue on as usual. While the Democrats love Obamacare and want to defend it at all costs, they won't sacrifice the rest of government for it.

Blame matters when it comes to elections, as you very well might find out.

Some of their voting base might just be the government employers out of work until this resolves.

Having a hissy fit and shutting down the government unless you get your way isn't a way to govern. Establishing a new pattern of record breaking fillibusters, fillibustering your own bill, shutting down government, blocking appointments, etc, simply creates a new tool for when the democrats are in minority.... just like how the TSA exists, NSA spying started all under Bush.. it continues with the next president. Don't complain when the other side does it if you think it is ok when your side does...

In other words, extortionists don't care about the hostages. Only the intended victims of extortion care.

Glad we could clear that up.

It's an issue of repetition. Repubs have pulled this stunt enough times that it's become part of their identity, something that won't serve them wrt swing voters. Not at all.

Well, practice does make perfect.

If one democrat does something stupid, were told not to blame the group.

One republican does something stupid, all of a sudden its 'all republicans'.

Problem is Michelle reached critical mass when 50 stupid things was exceeded.

The next election is well over a year away, and the presidential elections over 3. I'd gladly accept an election loss a year hence for a year of government shutdown now. If the election loss even happens - remember that Democrats predicted dire things should the Sequester come to pass and it's been a non-event. People might care about national park closures and such, but I bet hardly anyone will care if 800k federal bureaucrats take some time away from Washington D.C. and we save a few billion in payroll.

With any luck, the ACA will be a smashing success by then & Repubs will be drowned under the backwash of their own liquified bullshit.

For Repub leaders, that's the really scary part. Their decades long effort to discredit govt would suffer a serious & lasting blow.

All depends on how you define "success" I suppose. If your criteria is "was not repealed outright" instead of "it actually does what it's supposed to instead of costing a fortune just to completely fucking over the young and healthy to subsidize the old and sick" then you could conceivably call anything a success.

Heh, a 'resounding success!' from an entity that's done nothing lately but teeter on the brink of financial collapse.

"Ohhh no!! No mo money for whitehouse tours and national parks... but hey, we're just about to launch this awesome NEW program! Whoo hooo!!!"

"We're broke.. can't keep the lights on, can't balance our own budget or pay our bills... but HEY! We've got this brand new scheme that's gonna take care of your health!"

Thanks, feds!

Since apparently our nation's greatest problems can ONLY be solved by the nation's biggest bunch of losers (according to leftworld 'logic') and since it works soooo well, why don't we extend this brilliant idea?

I submit:

In charge of the economy.... the masterminds of Detroit. Have at it guys!

"Ohhh noo.... we're broke! Can't keep the lights on! Shutting down.... but HEY! Don't fret, we've got this awesome brand new plan for jobs for the whole country!"

Thanks, Detroit!

In charge of energy... the masterminds of Solyndra!
"Broke! No money! Bailing out!! But, wait... look over here! We've got a brand new plan for the nation's energy needs! It's gonna be great!"

Thanks, Solyndra!

Someone let Bernie Madoff out of jail... he's now in charge of the Treasury Dept. The man did absolute miracles turning a whole lot of people's money into nothing but a pile of I.O.U's - according to leftworld 'logic' that makes him more qualified to be in charge of EVERYONE'S money than anyone else on the planet.

Thanks, Bernie!

Feddie Mac and Fannie Mae are now in charge of the new single-payer mortgage industry. AWESOME!

The designers of Chernobyl now in charge of housing and urban development.

It's so far a tie between Robert Mugabe and Kim Jong un to head up the NSA if we can recruit either to come over here.

People, there's no problem too big to solve if you just toss enough endless piles of money at it and place your 100% undying faith in the world's most incompetent people/organizations to fix it.

This is sooo funny.
Like Bachmann hating the so called BIG GOVERNMENT while she takes farm subsidies with open arms.
And she hates gays, when her husband makes Richard Simons look like John Wayne.
These republicans that hate government are the first to seek government assistance for their state and their own family.
Only then do they sing a different tune.
Such Hippo-Critics.

I won't be surprised if, eventually, the moderate Republicans cave. Then they will lose out to Teahadists in the primaries who will go on to lose the general elections.

The moderate republicans have already caved. They just don't have enough GOP votes and with Bohner currently invoking Hasterts rule they can't do anything. They actually "caved" before the shutdown. I wouldnt really call it caving, its more along the lines of being rational.

How is it nuts to shut down a festering stinking slimy pus oozing ball of filth that sucks money in like an industrial vaccum cleaner? Even with the shutdown, DC is still spending more than it takes in via taxes. How is that not insane, yet it is insane to want to stop that? Govt is responsible for enforcing cartel powers that have driven up health care costs to insane heights. Why is it that 90% of the population is so completely ignorant as to the causes of spiraling out of control prices in housing, education, health care, etc? It is always powerful lobbies manipulating the levers of government to pass laws which benefit them. ACA is exactly more of the same on an even larger scale, just like every other previous piece of bad legislation. The effects of which are always totally predictable. And yet you have all of these stupid dumbed down morons who just want more and more and more of what has already destroyed so much of our standard of living. You idiots are getting exactly what you deserve... to be financially raped and left with nothing but food stamps. That's all you will ever have when you worship a corrupt government that passes not a single piece of legislation that benefits anyone except the rich.

I voted for Michelle. How do I make the heart emoticon?

Honestly does it even matter anymore? We need to reboot the system. It gave a blue screen a few decades ago.

Your rant strokes the touchstones of every right wing talk radio crank pitch ever found to work on truly gullible minds, a litany of looney.

Apparently, being in for a penny of the foolish is in for a pound of the crazy.

I'll take another pound of the crazy then, because it's a whole lot more palatable than the utter stupidity and insanity we currently have going on in the Federal government!!

Ahh yes, and Jhhnn for secretary of education. Who better than a mouth-breathing dullard of extreme low IQ to solve all the nation's education problems?

Thanks, Jhhnn!
