This was on page 25 A of todays edition of that "liberal media" newspaper, The Miami Herald.

TEXAS CANDIDATE ASKS FOR A HAND REVIEW:
As Republicans criticize Democrat's requests for hand recounts of presidential votes in Florida, a GOP candidate in Gov. George W. Bush's home state asked for a hand recount of his own votes. Texas' secretary of state approved the request earlier this week.

Texas house District 5 candidate Bill Hollowell, defeated in last week's election by incument Bob Glaze, a Democrat, asked for a manual recount of the 40,912 votes cast in the race.

In the first count, Glaze received 21,496 votes to Hollowell's 19416-winning by 2080 botes, according to the secretary of state's office. The district includes Smith, Upshur and Van Zandt counties in East Texas.

The recount must be completed in each country by Nov. 20.

The Republican Party of Texas had no comment.

The hand recount adheres to the law signed by Bush in 1997 declaring that in Texas, "a manual recount shall be conducted in preference to an electronic recount."

Doesn't texas use optical scanners like we do in Oklahoma? If so then I think that makes all the difference in the world.

Texas uses optical scanners, and in something like 14 counties, they use punch cards.

What's your point? The Texas law has standards built in to guide what the votes count and why. What Gore is trying to do in Florida is make up the difference by arbitrarily judging incomplete votes in their favor. Everyone knows thats what their up to, it's just that people on one side deny it.

Another piece of misinformation being spread around is that the Texas law means that hand counts are BETTER than machine counts. That's NOT what it means. It means that in Texas, you get one shot at a recount. You can have a machine recount or a hand recount but not a Florida-style count and count and count and count and count and count and count and count and count and count and count and count and count and count and count and count and count and count until you can find enough votes in your favor.

The Texas standards are less strict than what they are using in FL.
Pregnant chads, pinholes, etc are all counted.

TX law states that manual recounts take precedence over machine recounts.

The move to machine counts/system overall was for speed, not efficiency.

There has also been a recount in 6 Republican counties in FL.

Gee, I thought that's EXACTLY what "a manual recount shall be conducted in preference to an electronic recount." means. Must be those pesky democrats changing the meaning of words in the dictionary.

Skiller:

There's one word in the dictionary the RePoopLickems don't know or understand: "hypocrisy". :p

I remember Hyde and Barr condemning Clinton for a few stray sperm when they are or were two of the biggest womanizers in the country.

And then there's McCollum. There must be a God because he lost. :p

Well, the republicans don't hold the monopaly on "hypocrisy", but when decent people sink down to that level - it's another story. :|
