Republican Party goes Double TransVaginal

The Republicans and Christian Taliban are at it again. Indiana legislators are working to pass legislation that would require not one, but two...two! transvaginal ultrasounds (before and after) for women who want to take an abortion-inducing pill.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2013/02/21/abortion-pill-ultrasounds-indiana/1935879/

"Republicans don't just want to get into your bedroom, now they want to get into your vagina!"

Hopefully some of the Indiana legislators will express their opinions about rape and pregnancy and whether or not women's bodies have natural defenses against pregnancy in the case of rape.

Eight states — Alabama, Arizona, Florida, Kansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas and Virginia — now require women who have an abortion to have an ultrasound, some of which are transvaginal.

Two other states, North Carolina and Oklahoma, have passed mandatory-ultrasound laws that courts have suspended pending challenges.

Ultrasound bills have been introduced in nine states this year

The Arkansas Senate approved a bill last month prohibiting abortion if a fetal heartbeat is detectable via a transvaginal ultrasound

If women can't see they are under attack by Republicans by now they what they deserve.

If I was a female in the room getting the rape probe I would grab it with both hands and go to town making audible moans while looking the doctor dead in the eye.

Getting probed in your vagina without your consent is rape, but wait, if you "feel like you're going to be raped ... you may not be"

Just go to a safe area, find a call box or blow your whistle. If all that fails whip out you very deadly ball-point pen.

Can anyone who supports it explain why it's being done?

Failing that, I must oppose it by default.

i live 2 blocks from a planned parenthood. i feel like i want to donate money to that orginization just because of the abuse they take. its not right. every. single. day. i drive by there and there are people standing outside holding up stupid signs... and when you pass them they stare at you like the world is ending. they act like planned parenthood is the worst company on the planet.

they have no clue that the whole thing is to PREVENT unwanted pregnacies! i mean, sure, if they feel that every baby should be born then THEY should raise those kids. all millions of them. what idiots...

"Republicans don't just want to get into your bedroom, now they want to get into your vagina!"

Another patently ridiculous claim. Since Republicans won't be administering the ultrasound and won't have access to it in any way thanks to HIPAA, they won't be anywhere near your vagina.

And since ultrasounds are required for many abortions anyway, the law is almost completely redundant.

But don't let any facts get in your way. It's not as if we have any other pressing issues in America that need your attention more than this one.

1. Performing an ultrasound is only required in eight states before an abortion.
2. Ultrasounds are medically unnecessary for first trimester abortions and add significantly to the cost of abortive services.
3. A TRANSVAGINAL ultrasound, which is what the bill calls for, is increadibly invasive, and an abdominal ultrasound is usually just as effective.
4. There is no medical justification whatsoever for the SECOND transvaginal ultrasound.

If there are other more pressing issues, then why did republicans bring this bill up at this time?
Edit (add): The republican party's constant attempts to regulate women's health is, in my opinion, the largest problem with its current platform. Even the majority of Catholics use some kind of contraceptive.

If you don't like it, don't have one. Isn't that the standard we're supposed to accept? Except if it is, then the ultrasound/rape comparison goes right out the window. Ooops...

I appreciate the D's mucking about with my health care plan about as much as you appreciate what the R's are doing. Except the D's aren't giving ME a choice - and they're all about choice...depending on the issue.

Actually, you have that wrong. The republicans are trying to force people to use the "If I don't like what you do, here's a giant expensive penalty and an invasion of your personal privacy" standard on people because the supreme court shut them down.

Wow, what a diversion.... The democrats don't want to give you the choice to interfere with a woman's reproductive system. Why are the republicans bring this bill up if their beef is with health care plans?

"If I don't like what you do, here's a giant expensive penalty": You mean like Democrats did with Obamacare ;)

"and an invasion of your personal privacy": Is the ultrasound going to be done publicly?

OR, more to the point you may be interested in:

"Any action in which a man ejaculates or otherwise deposits semen anywhere but in a woman's vagina shall be interpreted and construed as an action against an unborn child."

edit 2: LOL! O I like this one!

"In January, the Virginia Senate voted against an amendment proposed by Virginia Sen. Janet Howell, a Democrat, which would have required a man to get a digital rectal exam and cardiac stress test before getting a prescription for an erectile-dysfunction drug."

None of this addresses how privacy is being violated.

So I assume if a woman performs oral sex she would be guilty of cannibalism ;)

So your argument is Democrats are engaging in a war on men?

Well, these are being introduced at the state level, not the federal level. So "small government" republicans (who are generally against large FEDERAL government) are true to their form.

States can do whatever the fuck they want within their constitutions, as per the 10th amendment. Don't like it? Move to a different state.

you are absolutely right, if agreed to, men/women lose their privacy rights by undergoing these invasive, unnecessary, and costly procedures in order to get their abortions/viagra pills.

For me this isn't about privacy rights as much as it is about useless, costly, absurd procedures being required as qualifiers for treatment that is entirely unrelated.

These useless procedures acts as deterrents to the actual treatment that these men/women seek. In some cases, humiliating deterrents. Unless of course, you like being probed in sensitive areas for no good reason.
