1-5-2004 RNC attacks Bush-Hitler ad - Moveon.org spot compares president with German dictator

WASHINGTON ? Republican National Committee Chairman Ed Gillespie called on the nine Democrat presidential candidates to repudiate an ad posted on the Moveon.org website comparing President Bush to Adolf Hitler.

The ad shows a series of pictures of Hitler speaking in German. Text on the screen reads as follows: "We have taken new measures to protect our homeland ... I believe I am acting in accordance with the will of the Almighty Creator ... God told me to strike at al-Qaida and I struck them ... and then He instructed me to strike at Saddam, which I did."

"Sound familiar?" asks the text, to the sound of cheering Germans.

Yes, and Howard Dean = Osama bin Laden, per yet another Democratic ad. I'm just waiting for the ads equating Lieberman to Pol Pot, Kerry to Slobodan Milosevich, and Al Sharpton to Vlad the Impaler.

ADL Says Hitler Ad Should Never Have Appeared on MoveOn.org

Simon Wiesenthal center criticizes MoveOn.org for posting ad comparing Bush to hitler

First ad that was posted then pulled by MoveOn.org
Second ad posted and pulled by MoveOn.org

I actually laughed at the ridiculousness of the "ads". I can't believe any self respecting human would take those ads seriously. It's a nice try at a headline grab though MoveOn.org - mission accomplished...I guess

The Democrat presidential candidates didn't post that ad, why are they being attacked about it?

Who knows? Maybe the RNC can figure out someone to protest over this latest "scandal?" If only CBS was somehow responsible, they bend over like a bunch of prison b!tches. ;)

Attacked? I don't see where anyone attacked the candidates.

But yeah - Genesys is right. Al Gore is a big MoveOn.org guy(not that it means he had anything to do with the ads perse;))

Any President who lies to his citizens to get them to approve of mass murder and claims SOME DEITY TOLD HIM TO KILL IRAQIS -- DESERVES TO BE COMPARED TO HITLER!

*8000 Civilians Murdered by the American Occupation is considered mass murder, isn't it?

Dangit, I'm sorry I missed those two. Did anyone get a copy I can sneak a look at before they were pulled? Most of the rest are ok, a couple are downright awesome. But I'd LOVE to see those two.

They raise awareness and leave an image. It does not matter if people consciously believe them.

I call Dean the next Stalin.

Now, it is up to the RNC to get Bush to effectively endorse Dean?

This isn't about getting the dems to condem the site, it is about getting the dems to effectively endorse Bush. Screw that.

No - it's about asking the candidates to condemn the ADS - not the site. The ads are more than over the top and set the stage for a nasty ad campaign by PACs and other orgs. You guys are fine with this now(although the Dean/OBL ad caused a stir) but just wait until some conservative group lays into your candidate - it should be fun to hear you whine about how it isn't fair. Well - you can't say you didn't ask for it:D

Remember this when Karl Rove starts.

Are these ads over the top? I think so. So the RNC condemns it. End of story. The only reason to drag the Dems in is for political leverage. I say they should not bite.

I also realize that "you guys" is a generalization, and it may or may not apply to me, however I have been around a good long time, and am hardly going to whine about ads. I may comment that they are wrong, as in this case (which I have you note). There ought to be standards, but there aren't. I will be interested to see a few key conservative types condemn attack ads against Dems. What I expect is them to defend them no matter what. Perhaps the ultra conservatives are "above" all that? We will see.

Play with fire...expect to get burned;) Al Gore and his chimps(thanks moonie:D) might just find out that they aren't the only ones who can play negative politics:)

I think this ad is ridiculous like I said-"No self respecting human would take those ads seriously." and it's also what I'll say if some Conservative group tried to link the eventual nominee to OBL, Qaddafi, Kim Jong, Stalin, or Castro. Our leaders are better than them and any comparisons made are anecdotal at best.

Meh - have fun with it MoveOn.org - looks like you got your headline. WTG

Surprise!
I wasn't thinking of you when I considered the short list of ultraconservatives. I disagree with you on many things, however I do note that you have reservations about the administration. You do not always jump reflexively to defend Bush under all circumstances. I am thinking of Ashcroft right now.

In any case, these folks will have their 15 minutes of fame, and will be gone. Ironically, if the RNC had not brought this up most would never have heard of MoveOn to begin with.

Huh? MoveOn.org has been in the headlines before and been posted about here before. It wasn't some fringe group(although it has some fringe ideas;)), but rather has become a "mainstream" activist group for the left. It started during/after the Clinton thing and has stuck around after the 2000 election, inspite of their name:p

I was going to post this long before the RNC made it's statement, but decided to let it play out first and also let someone else post it first. By the time it was posted - MoveOn.org had just gotten done pulling the second ad.

Well, I never heard of them, and never paid these sites much attention. The fact that we are having this little conversation is because the someone brought it up. Like trolls, if you feed them they grow. I suspect that for every one of me posting here, there are thousands who are now aware of them and their ads. I am not saying you should not have commented on them, I am just stating a fact.

If the RNC objected, then they did the right thing. They then went further and tried to drag the Dems in and the only time the RNC addresses a democrat is to use it to their advantage. I would say the same of the DNC too. You know this to be true.
