Repub asks court to grant him immunity from January 6 riot suit

JEDI

Republican Congressman Mo Brooks of Alabama argued in a filing with the U.S. district court in the District of Columbia he was acting within the scope of his employment as a member of the House when he delivered a speech at a rally outside the White House on January 6.

The Alabama Republican told the court that as a member of Congress, he is subject to the Westfall Act, which shields federal employees from being sued for engaging in their official duties.

The Justice Department last month declined a request from Brooks to represent him in Swalwell's suit, saying his appearance at the rally at the Ellipse was a campaign activity and inciting an attack on the Capitol falls outside the scope of his employment.

You've got to be kidding.
Inciting a riot was official capacity?

What a piece of sh*t!
He should be jailed alongside Trump for treason!

This worthless Hayseed pretender has an elite education, all that IQ used for nothing but cunning. Doubtless his greatest ego joy is the satisfaction he gets from conning others.

yeah the problem here is republicans honestly believe everything they've ever done is part of their "official duties". Including rape, murder, theft, and liable/slander.

"We will fight the subpoenas on executive privilege and other grounds for the good of our country, while we wait to find out whether or not subpoenas will be sent out to Antifa and BLM for the death and destruction they have caused," Trump said.

Right... as if there's like an address or representative for all of Antifa and BLM that a subpoena can be sent to...
Trump is an individual and his actions to incite the Jan. 6 insurrection are blatant. Antifa and BLM are movements and one cannot sue a social/political movement. It would be like trying to subpoena "Pro Life".
What a buffoon. Whatever sounds right and aggravates his base I guess.

No surprise. Hopefully unless the SCOTUS is owned by Trump, this will go nowhere.

Trump to file a lawsuit against Biden White House to keep January 6 records sealed: report | Salon.com
This doesn’t even make logical sense. It would be saying that the prior holder of the office of the presidency can bind the current holder of the office as to what he can do with the executive branch.

I imagine what he’s doing here is the same thing he does with essentially every other lawsuit, try to run out the clock.

Jan. 6 has to be the epic backfire of those many other backfires that blew up in the Repub's faces during Trump's reign as Dictator-in-Chief. The swath of wanton corruption and the glut of scandals they've committed during that time frame was highlighted by their comical efforts at damage control and cover-ups of which led to those many instances of self-inflicted humiliation and what was at the time a number of jaw dropping hilariously excruciating acts of hypocrisy of which continue unabated to this very day, like it was an everyday feature of their SOP.

Boy is the government really getting tough. I think they somebody who wanted to shoot Nancy Pelosi in the head got a parking ticket. New DOJ, Milk Toast Garland. There's a profile in courage. But then, as we all know, when you are nice to the insane they will respond by heading to the nearest shrink for psychotherapy. I think we are fucked and the liberals are on their way to the gas chamber.
