Reporting an accident

On the way home today I got in an accident (my vehicle: 97 Dodge Ram, his: 2005 Chrysler 300). Anyway, we had the usual snow and stuff and he decided to go into my lane while I was in it. I had no noticeable damage to my car, and his passenger side rear door is scraped up a bit. No, the police were not called but insurance info was exchanged.

I have no interest in filing a claim. At worst I have some paint damage in an area that already had paint damage and it would probably be about the same cost as my deductible. I figure I should report it to my insurance company (State Farm).

Now, is there any reason to report it to my local agent when she gets in tomorrow (she is a family friend) versus reporting it to the national number? Also, I take it that my insurance would take a hit even though I would not file a claim?

If you have too many incidents (even if they are not your fault) on your record, it may be more difficult for you to get insurance in the future. Talk to your local agent about whether you should report this. If you're not going to file a claim, I wouldn't report it.

The concern if I don't report it is that if he at some point in the future makes a claim against me. Granted, he seemed like a decent guy and is the VP of finance for a local company, but it still concerns me.
