Reported drive size different than max

I've seen this posted before, but I couldn't find it in a search.

I'd like to know why it happens and what I can do about it. Thank-you!

Are you running Service Pack 1 or greater? Also, how old is the computer you are putting the hard drive into?

Unless you reinstalled Windows with a SP1 or SP2 slipstreamed disc, the drive won't be recognized at the full capacity. Linky

After you reinstall SP2, you may need to go to Disk Managment to set the drive' properties back to what you need. Good luck.

in drive managment check and see if the whole drive it formated. if not, format the unused space on the drive.

Basic or dynamic disk?
What is actual drive size?
What is reported size?
How many partitions on the drive?
What is their size?
