Considering the chances of there being a 2005-2006 is extremely slim, I'd say it's a smart move.

The players are going to be seriously kicking themselves for not taking that last minute deal this past year that had a cap of around $42million. They won't get anything CLOSE to that now, and with ESPN dropping out the pie gets smaller and smaller.....man were they stupid, they'll be lucky to get a cap of $32million now.

No hockey on TV at all now. Yay, I guess.

Hockey is now an overseas sport.

I love hockey. And this statement is true. ESPN sucked for hockey anyway. When it was in season, they showed 1 game a week, at most. Thanks.. for nothing. Sportscenter ? Hah, thanks for the 2-second clips.. then back to basketball. BTW, basketball can blow me. Anyway, this isn't going to make hockey worse. ESPN never helped to begin with. The sport needs some serious infusion of scoring. The other part is the clueless viewers need to learn how to follow a black puck on white ice. If they can't, they can stick to watching the big round ball float into an unguarded basket... 50+ times a game. Or the heart-pumping free throws after the foul calls every other play down the court. Whatever floats their boat.

Nah, I think most people who hate it hated it before the lockout. I think hockey fans are more loyal than baseball "fans" who abandoned the sport after the strike... you have to actually LIKE the sport to be a fan when no one else is. :)

While ESPN and ESPN2 covered a plethora of games during its previous contract, the new deal called for ESPN2 to air just 40 regular-season contests.
... Yeah, sure they did. They showed a game a week, every Tuesday I think.

Nowhere near a "plethora" of games.

I do miss Hockey though :(
