Chrysler will probably stop building its Jeep Commander SUV after the 2009 model year, according to UAW and supplier sources cited by the Detroit News. Launched in 2006, the Commander was met with poor reviews and weak sales.

Jeep sold 88,000 Commanders in 2006 thanks to heavy discounts, averaging between $6,000 and $8,000. Analysts suspect the Commander mostly cannibalized sales of the slightly smaller Grand Cherokee, rather than bringing in new customers. The company sold 139,000 Grand Cherokees last year, down 75,000 from the previous year.
Good for them. They're turning into GM with 2-3 versions of every vehicle across the brands. "Dodge Nitro" (seriously retarded commercial BTW) and "Jeep Commander," same sh!t with a different stink.

Geez, I really like the way the Commander looked, inside and out.

They should discontinue those dinky smaller Jeeps they've been making lately.

They DMX needs to discontinue their entire design team, aside from the Viper everything looks like it's put together with Legos.

Personally, I'd jump all over the deals for a Commander that they offer.

A loaded $40,000 vehicle for $200/mo lease with nothing down? Sign me up.

That was short lived. I found them a bit ugly looking really. Kind of a cross between a Cherokee and a Land Rover.

do all of the big three really need all these diff names under them??
Do u really need a ford fusion/mercury milan/lincoln zephyr??????????
why not just make gm, chrysler, and ford vehicles??
maybe make a luxury brand name like Toyota has Lexus??

I'm disappointed that Jeep seems to be moving away from true SUVs and more toward soccer-mom/yuppie ones.

 I like the box look of them as well. I drive a 2000 Cherokee Sport in the 4X4 flavor.

Actually, the Nitro is the basis for the 2008 Liberty. The Commander is just a stretched Grand Cherokee.

wrangler is pretty nice

2007 Wrangelr is gorgeous! The improvements they made are huge. Love the offering of a 2WD version and glad they continued on with their Rubicon line-up. The Unlimited 4-DR is very nice as well.

Grand Cherokee is very nice as well.

Compass is nothing but a Dodge Caliber and I have no idea what the Patriot is.

Patriot is also a Compass. Figure that one out . Why on earth would they make two vehicles in the same class?

I like the new Wrangler, and the price drop is awesome. They did cheap it out in a few places, but nothing too bad. Plastic bumpers would have to go.

My FJ has plastic bumpers; they look really nice but plastic != trail. I am waiting for someone to make a front winch bumper with the same looks, or next year (if I get a chance) I am going to make one. Damn plastic does not belong on the outside of trucks or jeep type vehicles.

Supprisingly though, the plastic did not break or crack when I pushed a civic up a hill. It was interesting that the bumpers were a close match in height. *shrug*

I love the Wrangler. I fell in love with at my first Detroit IAS when I was 7! Glad to see that they have expanded the Wrangler line too.

How long of a lease though? :p

Deals should get even better once clearance prices go into effect. :)

That's actually not too bad if all you need is a "long term rental" :)
