I'm sure he has the skills to hit the ball since he's in the major leagues. Steroids probably helps him swing a heavier bat, swing harder for the fences, and probably helped with his bat speed.Originally posted by: Atomicus
Don't you still need skill to actually hit a ball coming towards you at 80+ mph?

Bonds received Winstrol, according to federal testimony by Tim Montgomery, the world's fastest man.
"According to a report Thursday in the San Francisco Chronicle, Montgomery testified last year that BALCO founder Victor Conte told him Bonds switched to an undetectable steroid in 2003 when baseball introduced its drug policy."
The most intriguing thing about this is: why would somebody who doesn't even know Bonds lie on the stand in Federal Court about him? It's simple, he wouldn't. The Feds already have hard evidence that Barry received steroids at his house, and now testimony from Tim Montgomery verifies that Bond's trainer told Tim M (who was his client as well) that Barry was on "the clear" (THG). Like I said in previous threads, and said before: Your head doesn't go up 2 hat sizes at age 37, and you don't gain 20 pounds of lean muscle mass in one year at age 37. For someone who has to keep a fine tuned body as an athlete, Barry did not just all of a sudden "discover" how to put on muscle in the weight room doing new exercises after 12 years of conditioning... Statistically, Bonds, from 1987-2000, averaged a .571 SLG% for his first 12 full seasons played, and then posted: .863 in 2001, .799 in 2002, and .749 in 2003? It doesn't take a genious to figure out why he exploded all of a sudden. Short of video of Barry taking the juice, we have all the evidence we need IMHO. What do you think?

People don't know- whether they consider yourself a genius or not.
Just remember, if he's proven innocent (interesting he has to be proven innocent), will people apologize for believing that he was guilty or will they just fade away like they never made the accusation in the first place.
And as for Tim Montgomery, let's believe the word of a proven cheater over someone you think is cheating.

Alright i'm a SF Giants fan, first of all, If and if he didn't is one thing, but name one hitter with a better eye than him? None. The guy knows the strike zone so well. Anyway, after saying that i also want to conclude with i don't really watch the SF giants games anymore because the team SUCKS except for Bonds, and Bonds is walked every at bat? What the hell am i watching it for again? Oh right, thanks commercials.
I don't agree with this, because the Feds should be able to pinpoint around the exact time he used them. Before using them, he was a pretty good player and should be remembered as a good base stealing, great defensive and good hitting outfielder prior to his behemoth, homerun mashing roided up days which we are now seeing.Originally posted by: BCYL
If Bonds is proven to be using steroids, I think his record should be removed completely...

I am going to take steroids just so I can have a larger cranium!
Fvck you people!! Now you will have deal with my overly large skull!
Nobody argues that the guy was skillful, but using steroids to turn a hall-of-fame player into a record-breaking player is still wrong.Originally posted by: Atomicus

I'll agree with 9/10 of your statement, but some recognition, if it's proven to be true, of his use of banned substances should be made, whether it be removal of the records entirely, or simply reverting back to Mcgwire, or even Sosa's, record for HR's

Yeah, I thought about that as well. Don't think for a minute that he wouldn't say that specifically to avoid prosecution.Originally posted by: KoolAidKid

Even if true, this statement is misleading. A more definite statement would be that Barry Bonds never received steroids from Conte, directly or indirectly. If Conte gave the drugs to an intermediary who then gave them to Bonds, Conte's statement above would still be true.

He was already a record breaking player.

Why? The substance McGwire was using was banned... and anyone who thinks Sammy doesn't/hasn't juiced in the past is kidding themselves.
I still think if Barry Bonds was a liked guy then people wouldn't be screaming 'cheater/remove records/etc.' It doesn't matter though. His records will stand in this day when I'd say the majority of productive baseball players are juicing in some form or another, either today or in the recent past.

Was it banned at the time?? That's why I asked, as I'm not terribly sure. I seem to recall it only being banned last year, after the Orioles pitcher had the heart attack, unless it was ephedrine I'm confusing it with... (my memory is very sporadic today... 😛)
If it was illegal, then yes, I would agree that erasing McGwire's mark as the record would be applicable as well, same goes for Sosa..
