Repo men

Anyone have experience with these guys, either from being repoed or as a profession standpoint? Seems like a pretty fun job, to legally steal stuff, especially cars..

I think that either TLC or the Discovery Channel had a show devoted to REpo men - you should check it out.

Uncle was one for years. He was shot at and had his life threatened more times than he cared to remember.

Yeah, in theory it sounds like fun. Till you realize your not repo'in stuff from stand up business men living in affluent communities.....

Is that so? I saw a briefing of it on a local "inside edition" type showthat portrayed this repo man in a semi-glamorous role, aside from the "morals" of the job..

Yes! I saw that one, it was fascinating. You have to be able to hotwire any car in like 30 seconds. This one guy was repo'ing an RV, they had a camera guy with him. The big danger is if the current owner of the car catches you, you stand a good chance of getting your ass kicked (at the very least).

Depends greatly on location, and who you are repo'ing for. My uncle was repo'ing in what you would call a "less than glamorous" neighborhood and repoing cars from some of the more shady members of society that didn't feel inclined to pay their debts. It's not cool having somebody all hopped up on who knows what drug come running out of their homes half naked waving a knife at you. It's also not cool have the buddys of the guy who's car you are repo'ing taking parting shots at you as you pull away with the car.

that was neat when he had that little gizmo that would make a key for the RV right on the spot. I liked how they tailed that family to the lake, stole their trailer, and then stole their boat while they went in to get lunch.

I would be afraid they would just think I was a thug trying to steal their car and then they would kick my ass 6 ways from sunday.

BTW. That repo man shows sounds cool. Anyone know where I can buy or download a copy?

I don't know how fun it is. I know someone that did it for a while.
Would repo cars and stuff of that nature. He had to do most of it
at night and tried to get it with the least amount of interaction
with the people who owned the property getting repoed.

It may be legal to do but the people who are having the stuff
taken from them don't see it that way. And they usually put
up a good fight to keep it. Also keep in mind the people that
are having the stuff repoed from, aren't the brightest of the
bunch so they don't think about consequences . Probably why
they are getting their stuff reposessed. So the guy I knew and
the people he worked with tried to avoid confrontation all the time.
So it isn't the most fun job. Which is why he didn't that long.

yeah my dad owns a car dealership and my uncle owns a loan business. All my cousins and I did the job. I didn?t do it for long. It was just not safe. Granted very few people come out and try to mess with you. Since you never go alone we always had backup.

It was great fun. Nothing better then snagging a 50k car from a guy who lives in a 200+k house. Always wondered how they can be 4-7months behind payments.

We had dealings with a company that did repos for everything. From mobile homes to airplanes. They were nuts.
