Replying to flake buyers on Craigslist

A lady wanted to buy a pair of brifters (Bar end shifters for bicycles) but backed out of the sale. I played the game by saying "A person has given me an offer but wanted to know if you're still interested" her reply "I reaavaluated and decided not to upgrade at this time". The first thing I wanted to say is "You mean your mouth was bigger than your wallet bitch?"

Are you polite when it comes to CL type transactions?

If by "polite", you mean I realize that life is way too short to waste any more time crafting an e-mail reply to stupid motherfuckers who have backed out of a Craigslist deal... then yes, I am very polite.

If she's the kind who does this on a regular basis on Craigslist (and it seems there are some whose sole hobby in life is to express interest in an item on Craigslist, only to ignore every subsequent e-mail sent by the seller), you can add your response to the dozens of others who have probably already told her to DIAF. Your response will likely be ignored or tossed in the virtual trash bin unread. Even in the unlikely event she:


1) Actually reads it.
AND
2) Actually gives a shit.
AND
3) Wants to tell you to go to hell.

the odds are by the time she gets around to composing a response for you to savor, she will have found another item on Craigslist to express an interest in, and will go back to what she does best: ignoring other Craigslist e-mailers.

And if she doesn't respond what satisfaction can there be with no evidence that you got a rise out of her?

Maybe thats her way of telling you she found soemone selling one in better condition for half your price you money mongering fool.



What annoys me about CL is that they have everyone convinced that there are no honest buyers, and that everyone who emails you from a non-local area with an offer to buy your item is a scammer.

I only kinda hold it if the person says they are coming/on the way. And thats only for a day, aftre that its next person.

Until money is exchanged I would consider them unsold and I would tell anyone who is interested that the first person with cash in hand gets them. Just because someone says they're going to buy them doesn't mean they will...or that they have to. Craiglist != ebay.

Isn't it a negotiating technique for them to express interest and then make it seem like they've changed their mind to make you come down on the price?

You don't have to be an inconsiderate prick to get people to treat you decently or fairly. Just don't give them the opportunity to screw you over.

The OP didn't get screwed, if he had someone else who was interested in buying the brifters he should have sold to them...or at least called the first person and let them know he had another interested party. Like I said, sell it on a first come, first served basis. Don't hold the item for more than as long as it takes someone to meet up with you and view the merchandise.
