Folks, it is put up or shutup time. Video cards are not worth falling on your sword for. So, this brutal back and forth over which is your favorite and turning it into duels must stop. There will be a point where the AT Mods will say "enough is enough." They will tell the "boss" that it just is not worth the effort to keep around. The forum will be closed or the ban stick will do the smackdown (not the vacation stick, the ban stick.)

What does that mean? Only you guys can fix it. You must try to be civil and realize that others don't agree with you, just like in the real world. Yes, you may correct errors. But, name calling, flaming, etc., needs to be stopped. And, some minor victory or setback for one company is not your opportunity to celebrate. That is unsportsman-like and rude. While it might prove what you have been saying, it has NEVER been constructive or lead to reasonable discussions.

I am all for the Mods BANNING (not a vacation, that is temporary) unsportsman-like conduct and rude behavior. My level check tells me that they have about given up on this forum and a good reason to close it for good is just another nVidia/ATI flamewar away. Only you folks can fix it. Learn to control yourselves or do without.

Dude...you know that people who frequent the AT video forums have been begging for more moderation in the video section of the forums right? I've already started a bit ago by ignore filtering two of the biggest trolls/fanboys on this board in the form of, see my signature. Unfortunately, the script is not the best because anyone whose post contains those two names gets filtered as well.

Well I guess people can take things too far. But I like the video forum the way it is. We are all adults here (mostly?) and I think most of us can withstand some flaming now and then and come out swinging. It's what makes life interesting. Conflict. Sparks. I don't want some bland everyone politely "agreeing to disagree" stuff. I agree that hardcore swearing and of course the no brainer racism/sexism/blah blah should be banable. But I don't know- calling someone a moron now and then after a hard day's work can be a nice way to relax....

It should just be automatic to ignore the people who are obviously biased one way or the other, bottom line is that unless you work for ATI or Nvidia designing GPU's, getting worked up to the point I see here is silly & I try to treat it as such.

I think the underlying problem is that the folks I refer to above don't have much of a life outside of these forums & their social skills reflect it, plus becuase they don't have actual lives to worry about, they put far too much importance on which video card is fastest.

Frankly, aside from moderation of this forum I can't see a solution. :(

I'd say things in the video forum have toned way down in recent months. Granted I don't read every thread, but you don't see the total flame/FUD threads like we used to. It's basically minor stuff going on now, no biggie.

I agree, that's why I've enjoyed "Boxing Ring" even though it isn't working, it is an attempt to filter the fights there and keep them off of the technical threads.

Truth is, you can't simply stop people from fighting all of the time, and sometimes a conclusion is met where we can see who was right. I still think that there needs to be rules, like dfi-street. but I think that would be too much to "moderate". I wish Anantech would do more, like actually make sticky ideas stickies. So far, the only thread that is constantly a sticky is xtknights LCD thread.

First of all, the mods don't care [period]

Video is a "Dumping ground" for "opinions" [read: "mostly worthless"] . . . it is where the rejects from GH end up [just like the OT rejects migrate to P&N] . . . lots of "noise" but very little worthwhile facts. Compound that with the "paid moles" from ATi's "Higher Crap" and nVidia's AEG fud-spinners and it is made even worse as there is no "trust".

Fortunately, i don't need anything for my rig for at least another year . . . i doubt if i will ever see an x1900xt in AGP, so my next upgrade will be MAJOR . . .

so there isn't much i can really contribute here . . . i'll still follow along the interesting theads and 'keep up' with video - but there isn't much joy for me anymore so [hopefully] you will continue to see less of me.

And of course, with the Video Forum 'balance' shifted from formerly decidedly Pro-nVidia to currently 'mixed', my work is done. ;)

peace and aloha and c-ya

HL2 ep1 is more like a weak pain reliever after surgery. The relief will subside really quickly, and you'll be back ;)

Mods don't care about video. Trolls will always be here. Remember, if you feed a troll it grows.

Agreed. Ever since a certain member was given his walking papers, the Video Forum has settled down enormously. I haven't been very active here lately (busy summer) but I still take the time to read, if not to post. And it's been much, MUCH better.

I don't entirely agree with you. With the banning of this individual there have been less threads created with the sole purpose of spreading FUD, but the bigger issue now is the dumping of really biased opinions into legit threads. There have been a number of threads latley where someone is simply asking if one card is good or not, and then someone jumps in with something like, "that card is crap, get this other one and all of your problems will be solved". Needless to say, there isn't much worthy content to a post like that but it serves to plant FUD into the OP's mind. From there the thread usually deteriorates becasue others try to refute the blanket statements, which makes the thread completely useless to the OP or anyone else. I'll admit, I'm guilty of the latter, but it is very annoying to see some people regularly giving others (especially n00bs) extremely biased information, and I would hate to see someone take the advice of someone so biased becasue they didn't know any better.

Edit: that being said, there are still a number of posters contributing interesting information they worked on themselves. BFG10K did some interesting benchmarks comparing HQAF performance vs optimized AF on NV cards which was certainly interesting, and ItsAlive has a good thread currently going on about flashing an X1800XL to an X1800XT, which I'm sure that many people are interested in.

Honestly, this forum is far from perfect, but ultimately this forum still contains a lot of useful information or links to it. Very rarely is there anything of interest put on the web about video cards that this forum doesn't pick up.

well said.

personally, the video forum has very little to offer. i read the posts of a select few but even that is an effort due to the constant squabbling and fud spreading. its really too bad but nothing will change until the mods pull a stalinesque purge and end the nonsense.

Ah, I don't know. The firefights are normally pretty entertaining. But I suppose there was a reason I haven't visited this forum for ~2 months...

The current crop of vid cards is pretty stale, hopefully there will be some more exciting choices in a couple more months :)

Not only that, but there is no context and these quotes are clearly designed as a personal attack to make him look foolish.

I didn't make the boxing ring. I've just posted in it. Sometimes I've even invited people into it that I have seen on technical threads. My old sig had a link to it after a "Chill its just a forum" link as well.

I know that lately I've agrued with people, yet I've also told them when it got to a certain extent that if they wanted to continue it, they can PM me. It is not against thread rules, even on other forums that actually have rules, to directly quote somebody in their sig.

My sig (now) isn't offensive. The mods rightly got on my case after he told them to get rid of the nickname "dramaqueen" that took the place of the "beggerking" when showing who posted it. That was what he was offended by, after he said he was going to ignore it. The real personal attack that was in there is gone thanks to the mods. All I've done is take his quotes (which were out of context anyway even in the thread) and put them in my sig. If you think those words make him look foolish, then that does indeed say somthing.

Right, at the risk of being flamed myself, here goes...

Yes it does. However, some things in life are meant to remain unsaid.

There is also the point that regardless of whether the words were out of context in the thread, they most certainly are in your quotes. With the thread, we can at least view the surrounding text and paragraphs. With your sig, we only see YOUR opinion on somebody else.

Quoting somebody in a sig is fine, somebody has even done it with Rollo here, words which prove that whatever Rollo is/was, he certainly had a feel for sarcastic humour.

And that quote of his doesn't insult anyone in particular, it's actually quite amusing.

Whereas your sig is a direct and negative reference to another member. I'd be pretty pissed if you'd done that with my words.

You are right in saying that his words say a lot about him. However, your sig says just as much about you. And the poster who pointed out that you flame this guy every time you post is spot on. It's a bit hypocritical.

You might like fighting and being confrontational with others, the rest of us don't necessarily enjoy reading it though, especially when we're trolling through here trying to find information.

It's a shame, because you are obviously knowledgable.

I said " I'll ignore for now" . I gave you a chance to correct this childish behavior, but you continued with it, so I got the mods..

"SOFTWARE HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH HARDWARE!!!" .. wondering why you didn't post the whole quote. what I was trying to explain was " software doesn't need hardware for the software to run. whether or not the data produced by software is useful w/o hardware is another matter. "

2nd quote was referring to BFK seeing nothing wrong with your signature.

You can argue it any way that you want to, but I don't think you or anyone else believes that you are trying to pay beggerking a compliment.
