Hey guys. I just got my Replay 5040 ($119! Woo!) 😀, but I'm trying to figure out how to do a few things, and I can't figure it out.

First of all...

1. It is possible to switch between a TV show & a recording, but when you switch to the recording, to "pause" the live TV? So that when you are done watching the recording, you go back to the live TV show, but where you left off? If so, how do you do it?

2. Can you record a show and watch a different show at the same time? I can't seem to figure out how to record one show (say, for example, Baseball tonight), while watching the news...is that possible?

Yep, we had to split the cable line to record something that wasnt being watched.
 
The only way to record a show while watching another at the SAME time is to have 2 tuners. One tuner won't suffice, with or without a cable splitter.
