ReplayTV and Time Warner Digital Cable?

Well, I'm about to move and trying to decide if I want to get digital or analog cable through Time Warner. The rep told me that I will basically get 100+ more channels and a cheaper install with digital cable.

However, from what I understand, each TV will require it's own digital box.

Also, a big concern for me is how I will be able to use my ReplayTV with this kind of setup.

Any thoughts on this?

the replay tv should have a serial port on it which can allow it to control the tw box.

if i were you i'd get the tw pvr box, since it just records the digital cable stream to the drive then decodes, instead of the replay with would decode, encode, then decode again.

Thanks for the suggestions, but there are two little problems... The first is that I already own a ReplayTV, and would like to continue to use it.

The second is that the TW rep said that they may have some kind of pvr box that will be available around Sept. of this year.

I would like to know more about how I can use that serial port with the TW digital box...

i'm not exactly sure how its works but basically you can just hook the two together and the replay can control the cable box. you might have to look into your documentation for the replay.

tw already has the pvr here in austin

Depends on which cable box they use in your area. In my area, the Time Warner digital boxes do not have serial ports. I just use taped the little InfraRed eye thing from my Tivo to the front of my cable box so it can change channels, etc.

time warner where i live in upstate NY requires a "Box" on each TV that wants all of teh channels/ you can just plug the cable into a tv and get liek 60 channels but you wont get any of teh pay channels

I have Replay and Time Warner Digital Cable.

The Replay has something called an IR blaster that allows it to send IR signals to your digital cable box to change the channel. It works flawlessly for me.

Wow, a Time Warner PVR, I've gotta look for that. Usually we're the last to get everything though...

You know, I'm thinking about it as well. In my area, the PVR is only $4.95/month if you have one of their higher end programming packages which I do. 40-48 hours recording time, you can record -2- programs at once. (Replay can't, Tivo only can if you have the one built into a satellite receiver) Picture in picture. No need to make daily phone calls for programming, etc.

$4.95/month as opposed to $12.50/month for my 30-hour Tivo? hmmm

I have Time Warner Digital Cable with Replay TV

yes you haVe a individual receiver for each TV for digital cable~

I have mine connected using my home theater setup~

you can install it without the receiver as well~

and digital cable can be controlled with your replay tv

i do it at times~

So with the IR blaster, I won't even notice that I'm having to use an extra box? That would be great as I really hate using cable boxes... the last thing I need is yet another remote control.

What you need is a good universal, fully programmable touch screen remote. A good starter is the Sony RM-AV3000 for around $100 online. The sky is the limit with these things. My brother has a house-wide AMX system that cost tens of thousands. 🙂
