Replacing windows on my laptop

Scarpozzi

Lifer
I'm finally replacing Windows on my laptop... I'm installing Xubuntu 14.04 LTS.

I did this on my primary workstation and have had excellent success. I have Windows 7 sandboxed in Virtualbox to provide VMware administration tools, a few windows apps, Office/Outlook... (though I also have Evolution configured for Exchange MAPI support thanks to an old lib that Novell developed)

My only concerns are driver support, battery life on the laptop, and the loss of a second monitor. My hope is I can deal with this by pushing Virtualbox to a second workspace and have an easy way to switch between operating systems without too much trouble or pain.

Anyone got any must-dos on the 14.04 install? I'm still on Xubuntu 13.10 on the workstation.

Thanks

The battery life will be less than you're accustomed to. Drivers and multi-monitors are things that I don't worry about unless I have AMD for graphics.
