replacing VPU on a video card

Kenazo

Lifer
So, some of you might have seen my post in OT lamenting my current situation... To summarize

Get a new Visiontek Radeon 9600
score 9000 points in 3dmark 2001, figure, hey let's try to get higher
This thing only has a passive heatsink, so I attempt to swap it for a TT Blue-Orb.
Evidently Radeon 9600 uses a kind of flip-chip type design, I was expecting the older style chip, like the 8500's were. I sheared off a bunch of the little resisters on the piece surrounding the VPU, and then when the heatsink came off, it broke off a capacitor.

so, here is my question: Is there anyway to get a new VPU for the card? or would that cost some insane amount?

To be honest mate I think you're looking at getting a new card. Google searches turned up nothing, and i've never heard of anyone replacing one. If anyone knows better then feel free to correct me but as far as I know it's a dead end. Sorry.🙁

yeah i agree with him.............never heard of anyone replacing VPUs and other componenets

if u could do it likley it would be a right mess on, expensive.......and it probably wouldnt work in the end anyway

buying a new one is the best option.............get one with an active HSF next time!!!!

no actually, a credit card. it was really quite bizarre. i'll try and take pics.

Sorry, that stuff is unfixable. Next time buy a card that you know either A) you know you can upgrade the heatsink, or B) you are content with the factory cooling system.

wow, thats worse than my brother cracking the core of his 1700xp when he put a heatsink on it....time for a new card, major suckage for you man
