I had this thread:
http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2198008

I convinced my parents to drop the x5 and look for something more reasonable...

They're going to look at a rx450h this weekend. The x5 is worth about 10k less for a brand new rx450h. I was amazed that it gets 32 city, 28 highway, insane! x5 gets about 14 city 19 highway.

Otherwise does anyone else have suggestions? They want an luxury-suv with decent mpg. They won't do domestic :/ so no Lincoln mkx

See the last reply for the update.

X3, Q5/Q7? The Audi's can be optioned with a diesel. MB also has a diesel ML, but that might be a bit bigger than what they are looking for.

If they're going to continue putting ~15k / year on a luxury car they own for only 3 years and resell at end of warranty then maybe they should just lease.

The reality is that ANY of these are going to be a pain outside of warranty. Lexus hybrid out of warranty will make them miss the relatively simple BMW v8.

IIRC lexus covers the hybrid system for 8 years/100k miles.

No doubt in my mind the lexus will be cheaper to maintain then the bmw. toyota drivetrain right?

Theyre going to look at the q5 but with the lexus costingly significantly less i can see it being the winner.

Just my .02, which is not indictive of overall performance, reliability, etc.... I'm currently driving an 01' Lexus GS 300 w/ 198K miles on it. Only oddball things that have gone out are the hood latch (can't open the hood), which was fixed at the dealer & the AC just went out last week. Everything else has been wear items. Tires, brakes, shocks, plugs, oil/lube, etc. These things last forever. Now my engine is an iron block straight 6. The hybrid system introduces a whole lot of other technomumbojumbo, that I don't know anything about.

Pretty sure the 'hybrid warranty' covers the battery and 1 control module, everything else is 48mo/50k.. But I'm not 100% sure on that either.

Hybrid Vehicle System
Hybrid System Warranty coverage is for eight years or 100,000 miles, whichever occurs first, and covers the following components: Hybrid control module, Hybrid battery control module, Hybrid battery and inverter with converter.

Is this a good price. Seems about the average for the area. All the dealerships are stating they don't have many in stock but are expecting to receive some in 1-2 weeks. This dealership is willing to take the x5 for 37k :/ . We won't let that happen, we're pushing for at least 43k. Crazy how fast the bmw depreciated, I think originally purchased for 82k in 2008

As for your parents not wanting domestic, the RX is made in Canada haha :p
