I've found the source of my noise, it's the fan in my power supply.

It's a Adda 80x80x25 fan with a 2 wire connector. What's the different w/ a 2 wire and a 3 wire fan? Can I just purchase a low noise fan and replace the current one? I've already opened the power supply and it looks like a regular fan except the wire only has a red and a black wire (no yellow). Whats the yellow wire do?

Yellow wire keeps track of the rpm which your ps obviously wouldn't need to do. I replaced mine and just plugged in the negative and positive connections correspondingly. Works fine.

Thanks for the info boyracer, anybody know what happens if a power supply overheats? Now I'm worried when I replace it w/ a quieter fan it'll over heat :(

LOL...you wan't quiet? You should look at those Enermax FCs...i got one and sometimes I wonder if the fans in there are even doing anything since they rarely spin over 1200rpm. LOL...i turned off all my case fans just to see if it gets hot enough to spin to 'useful' levels... it did but not by much...oh well I got a real quiet rig then. :D

Get a Panaflo 80mm series M fan. They come with two wire connectors and a perfect replacement for your PSU. Enough CFM to keep it cool and low db to keep you asleep. You might find one at the For Sale/Trade forum right now.

just remember those capicators hold charge for some time after the powers been switched off so only work inside the psu after waiting a reasonable time for the capicators to discharge themselves!

bacillus is right, I just play safe and do not touch the internal components directly if I can help it.

I've done it a bunch of times. I replace the fan with a Panaflow L1A (nice and quiet). I usually snip off the stamped grill and replace it with a wire grill while I'm at it.

thanks for the warning guys, I've already opened the power supply to check to see if the fan was the biggest noise maker. Its a wonder I didn't get electrocuted!
