How much would the part be on an average car from the mid 90s? or 80s? Just parts, no labor... Part would be relatively cheap, right?

Clutch, throwout bearing and flywheel resurfacing should be around...

- Clutch = 100 (oem exedy or something)
- Throwout bearing kit = 20-50
- Flywheel resurface = 80-100 at any machine shop

Install should take around 3-5 hours depending on your skills.

FWD or RWD?

It cost ~5 bucks to get my flywheel resurfaced...buddy of mine with a shop had it done, though..so he may have got a deal for me.

depends on the clutch and the car... my stang clutches were Dual Friction racing clutches and they cost quite a bit..

Rear... When people ride the clutch on their cars, are they wearing out the flywheel?

High slip wear causes high heat and warps the flywheel, yes.

Holy crap! What machine shop do you goto? The last couple times I needed resurfacing it cost me about $20.

OEM clutches (disc and pressure plate) run about $200-$250.

Depends on the car. Some, you're talking maybe only $400 in parts and a few hours in labor. Others, over $1,000 in parts and up to 18 hours of labor.

When I replaced mine, I paid $220 for a clutch disk, pressure plate, throwout bearing, pilot bearing, and alignment tool. (all in one kit!) The flywheel's surface was in excellent condition so it didn't need to be resurfaced.

Well, you should at least say what brand you got for that price. Honestly, crappy Autozone/Pep Boy's clutches fall into that price range.

It was a Luk (iirc that's how it's spelled), nothing special, just an OEM equivilent. A Centerforce would run double that.

Sadly that's the norm here in Hawaii unless you have a hook-up. Usually I just buy a new flywheel.

I just got an OEM Exedy kit for my suby. Cost me $215.

This will be my first time replacing a clutch. Where do I take the flywheel to get resurfaced? Only 36k on it so I dunno if it will need it or not.

How could one replace the clutch with out needing to resurface the flywheel? The only time I know of needed to replace/resurface the flywheel is if you are using the starter while the car is already running..

36k? What are you doing to your clutch to wear it out so fast?

Call around to find a machine shop that will do it. It's cheap, and worth doing, since you don't want to take the whole thing apart later if it had been warped and you didn't realize it. Then again, it's probably a lot easier on your car than it was on mine :)

Average....idk.
I've replaced the clutches on my Zs (ranging from 74-96) from $110-$250 not counting the $25 when the flywheel needed to be resurfaced or I replaced slave cylinders or other parts. I usually use Beck/Arnley oem type clutch kits.
