I've been thinking about modifying my MBP a bit. What I want to do is remove my SuperDrive, get an external enclosure for it, and replace it with a small SSD (~16GB or so). Basically, I want to put OS X and some of my most-used software on the SSD and use the regular HDD as main file storage.

Any reason why this wouldn't work? Thoughts?

Should work just fine. I wouldn't go less than the 30Gb drives for the OS though.

If you use symlinks it work just as normal folder access would.

Why not put the SSD where the platter drive is, and then put the platter where the optical was? Why put the SSD there?

I've been wanting to do this as well. Let me know how it goes. I think the superdrive is a different physical size? You might have to get some type of adapter/case for it to fit properly.

Well, you absolutely do, but they are both 9.5mm thickness so you have to get the right adapter for it.
