Hey guys,

About to replace the AMD stock cooler on my x2 4200 cpu. I had placed some arctic silver on it a few months ago.

Do I...

1.) Clean off the arctic silver ( I have arctic cleaner) Do I only use arctic cleaner or should I be using something with it?

2.) After cleaning need to use the Zalman paste or arctic silver?

Are there any other bits and pieces that I need to know?

I was also wondering whether the zalman 9700 was an investment as to say, if I were to buy a penryn core early next year, would I be able to use the same cooler - for overclocking?

Thanks.

You can only use the artic cleaner or you can use a clear liquor like gin or vodka to get the thermal paste off. You can then apply either your artic silver or zalman paste (your choice). I would us the artic silver...

It is a good investment because if you keep the cooler you may only need to get a socket adapter to use it in the future.

Huh? Gin? Vodka? Or arctic cleaner? Those are his choices? Too many impurities in the booze. Just about any drugstore/grocery store will have 91% isopropyl alcohol. Use that any a cheap coffee filter (lint-free) and you're good.
