Replacing standard NorthBridge Heatsink on the Asus A7V133

Hello all,

I posted this a couple of days ago in the "Cases & Cooling" forum. Unfortunately, no responses. I thought I would try here:

I have been reading some reviews on the A7V133. It seems that this board comes with a default heatsink for the North Bridge chip. Most of the reviews say that OC'ers should replace the default heatsink to provide better cooling for the chip.

Has anyone done this?. If so with what? Do the standard clips work? If not, how did you attach the other coolers to the North Bridge chip?

Thanks a lot.

You should be fine with the stock heatsink, one thing you can do is to put some thermal compound between the heatsink and chip, a 40mm fan fits perfect on the stock heatsink also, that is if it does not already have one, or replace the stock fan with a higher quality unit, on the back side of the board youll see the plastic tabs that hold the heatsink in place just squeeze them together then push on them with a little pressure, that should release them from the board. I would suggest adding a heatsink to the clock generator chip, it has the markings ICS on it, its located just below the FSB/Multiplier dip switchs, this chip gets hot when OC-ing, If you do put a heatsink on this chip be carefull not to let the heatsink touch the ,silver looking oval shaped crystal just to the lower left of the clock generator.
Hope this helped, good luck!

It already has a fan, and its even aimed so it blows the air away from your CPU... pretty cool.

Dulanic,

I'm sorry I wasn't sure what you meant by 'it'. Was 'it' the North Bridge or was 'it' the clock geneator chip?

I assume you mean that the North Bridge already has a fan. Are you sure about this? I have read at least one review that said it comes with a heatsink and not a fan on the North Bridge.

If not, then could you please give me the size, part number and manufacturer of the fan on your North Bridge? Thanks.

Yes Im sure, I own it. And the fan doesnt say anything on it... its some custom one... it has a cover on the uper part so it doesnt blow warm air on the CPU.

I agree with Dulanic. My A7V133 also came stock with a hsf on the Northbridge chip. The label on the hsf reads "ARX CPU Cooler."
