hi, i've heard varying opinions on this and so am going to the experts...
i would like to replace the 220w ps on my presario 8000 w/ athlon 2200+ processor. i've heard that the compaq power supplies are proprietary and also that any old atx ps will work. are any of you particularly familiar with compaq power supplies and can i (hopefully) buy an atx ps and not have problems?
this machine has had mobo, cpu and video cards replaced and still has huge problems--video will only run at limp mode (vga) resolution. at any higher resolutions it totally freezes the machine and has to be rebooted. compaq's answer was to replace mobo/cpu, but that didn't work so they ended up replacing the entire pc. if i could fix this problem it's a good machine, or was when it ran....
any other suggestions also appreciated, i just figured that given everything else that's been replaced the power supply was a good and inexpensive shot....thanks.
