Replacing onboard Ethernet with NIC card

In the Motherboard forum I stated that my Nforce 3 Ethernet is driving me crazy. It just keeps going in and out. I've tried different drivers with no luck.

This might sound stupid, but couldn't I just put a NIC card in, and access the Internet that way? Instead of using the onboard connection, just add a NIC and problem solved?

Somehow I feel it will be more complicated than this, but what can I do?

Yeah it is a little more complicated; you need to disable the Onboard NIC in the BIOS as well.😉

Hey Jack, is disabling the NIC in the BIOS a necessity? I've heard that you should to conserve resources, but it's not necessary. If it is, I would need to do this.

If you do not disable the Mobo card WinXP would find it and would install it. As a result, you would have an additional card installation with bound protocol etc, i.e. more resources spent and potential to troubles (Like the Bridge configuration that might installs it self uncalled for).

Thanks for the information Jack.

Now here's a new question. I did add the NIC, but before I even changed the Lan line (CAT 5) into the new connection, or disabled anything in the BIOS, I now have Internet.

It's still stating that my network cable is unplugged, but the only thing I did was add the NIC, I have done nothing else.

On one hand, I'm glad my connection is running, but now I'm not sure how.

It is probably the Mobo's NIC LAN Connection that state that the Cable is Unplugged.
