I have an old ECS k7som+ v7.5c mainboard in my basement. it has an intergrated duron processor. i also have a xp1700+ cpu lying around. i don't suppose there's a way to replace the duron without any major surgery, is there?

Well, look into the Duron mobo and see if it's hard soldered to the mobo. Or if it is socketed. Then maybe you can replaced it. But if it is soldered like each pin of the cpu being soldered to the mobo then, no you cannot replace it.

but doesn't "integrated" mean it was already soldered onto the board? i mean, i have never seen a socketed "integrated" chip, is there such a thing?

That's segregated.

Integrated is when they're together....

To the OP, did you figure out if it's soldered on or clipped on?

Hi, ECS does make MBs with the processor soldered into the board. Look carefully for a Socket and or lever. If the Heat Sink and fan assembly is screwed to the board then it usually is soldered in. Not much chance of changeing that one. Jim
