I have a working Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3R/S3R motherboard. It is out of warranty and I dont believe that it would be worth fixing.
If it does break, I want to have a spare motherboard in order to keep the HDD up and running. Rather than taking the time to reinstall the drivers and software and Hardware on a new motherboard.
I cannot find any motherboard replacements of the exact same model. There are several revisions to the GA-P35-DS3R/S3R. Some of which are affordable. They have a few revisions.
So, if I bought say a Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R or a Gigabyte GA-EP35-DS3R, are the chipsets similar enough that after switching the other hardware to the newer board, would the old HDD still function well enough with the drivers from the GA-P35-DS3R/S3R?
The ethernet drivers are the main issue. If the HDD drivers will allow the MB/HDD to connect to the internet, I can update the drivers at my leisure.
Thanks in advance.
