Is moly grease good enough? I have some lying around in my garage.
I originally bought it for repacking my CV joints but never got around to it. ;)

That's what I figured. I was just hoping though. Looks like I'll have to take a trip to the store later.

How different are the two greases?

Some wheel bearing greases do contain Moly, but standard Moly grease does not have the high temp rating that wheel bearing grease does, this is critical because Disc and Drum brakes produce considerable heat, this heat will cause standard grease to liquify and run past the wheel bearing seals onto your brakes.

I forgot about the brake heat.

On my car, the driver-side CV joints tend to go bad first since the exhaust crosses over that side.
The four CV joints will be a later project...

How difficult is it to replace a wheel bearing?

Describe the wheel bearing you want to replace and I will give exact details.

Please state the following ;

Make, Model and year of vehicle

Which wheel bearing you want to replace ;

Front Wheel drive front bearing(s)
Front Wheel drive rear wheel bearing(s)
Rear Wheel drive front wheel bearing(s)
Rear Wheel drive rear whell bearing(s)

How about on a '57 Dodge (or any Chrysler product from around there)? Could take 3 men and a boy just to get the rear brake drum off!! And then the axle key..............

Can you wrap the exhaust with some sort of insulation?

I just looked at my can of grease out in the garage. It's Sta-Lube Moly-Graph No. 3141.
It lists wheel bearings as one of the applications. Too bad I can't find any good links to it.

Is this good stuff?

Roger, the front wheel bearings for a front drive 95 Geo Prizm.

Remove hubcap then remove large driveshaft bolt
Remove tire
Remove Brake caliper
Remove caliper bracket
Remove bolt front tie rod end and seperate from knuckle
Remove lower ball joint bolt and seperate ball joint from knuckle
Remove bolts that hold strut to knuckle
Remove knuckle
Transport knuckle to automotive machine shop so they can press out the old bearings and install the new ones

Reassemble in reverse order of disasembly, align front end

Does it say in large letters on the front of the can "Disc and drum wheel bearing grease" ?

If not, I wouldn't trust it ;)

Edited, forgot something ;)

This is probably the hardest part. Your car will understeer like sh*t during the drive to the shop.
