Replacing my intake manifold & valve cover gaskets

Looking at the picture below, the way Nissan have it running is #1 connected to #1, and #2 connected to #2. Because of limited space I have to cut the lines in order to remove the manifold or else it's nearly impossible to do. The question I have is when it's time to reinstall, can I just run a coolant line straight from #1 to #2 (highlighted in pink) and completely ignore the stupid connection (highlighted in green) on the manifold?

I wouldn't recommend it.

There's a reason that they have the connection there. It looks like the connection runs right by the PCV inlet and it might be that there's just enough heat sink effect by having the coolant run through that little connector to keep things clean. Pure speculation on my part, but still, I wouldn't bypass it.

Yup, should never have to cut anything. Spend the extra 45 mins removing the other unrelated crap to gain access and do it right.
 
It looks like that is cooling the inlet for the EGR valve. Is that what mounts there?

edit: nevermind, yes, that's what mounts there. Didn't see it in the picture at first- looks like an EGR pipe to me. Also looks clogged.

Waiting on gaskets.

Oh yea, according to the instructions I'm suppose to put RTV gasket sealants on the corners but I don't know do you put it on the block or on the valve cover (or does it matter?)

How do I remove the firewall? 😵

See the picture above? 2 giant coolant lines on the firewall? The EGR pipe sit right in front of it and the little coolant line that I have to cut sit in front of that.

Now imagine the valve cover is there along with the giant intake plenum (which the little hose is connected to the bottom of it, the hose have less than 2 inches of give when you try to remove the plenum). no way you can get to the hose without cutting or remove major components that'll add HOURS of uncessary work & costs.

Some cars run collant through the intake manifold. My friends got a 2010 civic Si and that did. Now what purpose does that serve? I have no idea. Seems like it would heat the air coming in rather than cool it.

Usually that's for things like preventing icing of the throttle body during prolonged idling in cold weather.

Just add a small length of hose and a nipple and connect it as it was, making sure what you added does not contact anything hot.
It seems like the only reason it was designed that way was to keep the hose away from a very hot EGR tube.
Not a nissan tech. but it doesn't appear to sreve any other purpose.
