Replacing my DVD Player

I purchased this DVD player about 7 years ago and now it's starting to show its age. Well maintained disks are now skipping or not even playing. Tried cleaning the laser lens and that does not help. I'm looking for a good replacement player. I don't have a HDTV yet and can't see myself buying one within the next couple of years. If anyone could recommend a quality 5 disk DVD player I would appreciate it.
 
I also have a lot of burned movies on DVD. How does this DVD player handle DVD+R? Given Sony's rather shady service in the past I'm leary of purchasing this.
 
Do you really need the 5 disc changing ability? Do you use the changer for music cds or DVDs (or both)?
