I'm looking to set up a server at home to take care of printing and media sharing (pictures / videos / music) since my desktop has been doing the task. However, it's a bit on the heavy side for power consumption and I'd rather not have it up 24/7. I'd like to be sure these files are all accessible from my desktop (wired) and PS3 (wired) as well as my laptop (wireless). As far as the throughput is concerned, will including a switch behind the router help anything? I'd assume streaming from the wired server to a wired device (say the PS3) would be faster through the switch than it would be the router, am I correct in that assumption or is there not much speed to gain there?
