I have an amd 800 and abit kt7 mobo. I am going to replace with athlon 64 and chaintech nforce3.

Will this cause problems for XP? Will I have to reinstall? Should I reinstall?

Thanks everyone.

More than likely you will have to reinstall. Anytime you make major changes to Win XP, which you are doing, I have found that the least that will happen is that you must re-register it. What I would do is put the new components in fire it up and if Win XP is stable...go with it...if not, reinstall.

You gonna have the old the chipset/mobo drivers in that old installation. They're gonna clash with the new mobo. I don't do XP, but here's an Anandtech article on how to change mobo's w/o a reinstall LINKY

Also do a search here. This is a common topic, and there have been many posts on how to do it. Some have used the "repair" thingy under XP. Others have just deleted all the drivers b4 moving
to the new mobo.

I also do a reformat/reinstall so I don't have to worry about probs popping up later.
