I'm currently using the M-Audio LX4 2.1 system. It is a great system that i've been using for about 5 years. Its been with me through 3 PC setups. Everything is still working fine, but i'm wondering if I can get some help replacing the 2 stereo speakers. FYI, they are powered by an amp located inside the sub and connected via regular speaker wire. I'm wondering if a basic speaker set (and pretty good one at that) Pioneer Andrew Jones SP-BS21-LR will work fine with the original subwoofer?

Probably not. You are most likely going to need a separate amp or receiver to power those speakers. You could always take a look at powered monitors like Audioengine A2's.

Any reason why i couldn't use regular bookshelf speakers? How can i tell what the amp inside of the subwoofer can handle?

the LX4 system has a build in amp on the back of the sub where you can connect passive speakers. I was just wondering if the ones i linked would sound fine connected to it since its not an OEM replacement
