Replacing Laptop Hard Drive

Hello.

I will be trying to replace a laptop hard drive in the Compaq 1246 and need some advice on replacing the drive.

My main concern is disassembling the unit properly and making sure i have the proper hard drive for that unit.

Any suggestions/recommendations would be appreciated..

Thanks

you'll really need to find out what height the hdd is before purchasing!
modern laptop hdds are usually 9.5mm or 12mm high.

Check out the manufacturer website to see what to do and what specs your laptop supports. My IBM laptop's HD is easily replaced, simply a matter of turning a screw on the bottom and pulling the HD out.

I have a Compaq 1247 laptop and a 12.5mm drive fits, I bought a IBM 5400 rpm 40 gig GNX drive (9.5mm) and what a differance, much snapper and faster loading apps 🙂

PS, it's easy to put in, just follow the disassembly instructions from Compaq's site.
