Replacing laptop AC port

So I've got this old-ish laptop that my dad gave me when he retired it, and the power plug is a little faulty. The battery's kinda shot cuz it's so old, so it NEEDS to be plugged into a wall. The only way the pc will recognize the power being plugged in, is if you angle the plug to one side and tuck the cable under the laptop so it won't move around.

That's fine and all, but its really annoying. So last time it really got to me, I took apart the pc, and broke out a multimeter and thought I had it in the right spot (thinking the whole plug was loose), and i reflowed some solder to it and smothered it in hot glue to keep it in place.

It worked for a while, but it was too delicate, and now im back to where i was before.

I'm thinking that the post inside the plug is loose, and not the plug itself. So I went to radioshack with my power plug and found a connector that it'd work with. I don't have the laptop in pieces right now, but from what i remember, I dont think the plug i have is exactly mountable on the board, nor will it fit the way the case is set up.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I feel like this must happen to laptops eventually and theres some sorta standard way people go about fixing it. Should i just go for it and destroy the case a bit?

Also, the bezel from the slim cd drive in it cracked off and i was looking for a solution. For the moment, i just took some double sided foam tape, and stuck it on.

I'd really appreciate any suggestions. I've been meaning to take this little project on for a while! Thanks!
