Replacing iPhone battery

Other than the internals for warranty purposes, no. Unless you use a terrible aftermarket battery which can swell and even rupture.

Sorry so are you saying the internals will have visible tampering?

Like old video cards have stickers "void if removed"

iPhone 3GS

Does replacing the battery in this phone leave a trace that it was tampered in any way??

If it is within warranty, have Apple replace it.

If is it out of warranty, why are you concerned about how it looks inside after replacement?

Yes. There's security tape inside most electronics these days. One opened it loses it's adhesive and creates a pattern, so if you return it to manufacturer they'll know its opened. That's how they can void your warranty if tampered with.

But like said above, if it's in warranty and the battery is broken then have them fix it. If it's NOT in warranty then you don't lose anything anyway so what's the issue?

Out of warranty, but still under a replacement plan with FS

Was seeing if I can replace battery myself, hold out on the replacement plan until something more serious occurs

According to videos and guides online, the only thing I can see is the "Do Not Remove" sticker that you have to take off to get to the battery... and possibly the adhesive on the battery itself

Hell, just use the warranty. Makes no sense to DIY and void the warranty you paid for.

Is the replacement plan like a warranty such that you can void it by messing around with the phone? If so, just replace it. Otherwise you will probably end up screwing yourself.

There are probably ways to tell if it has been messed with that the general public still does not know.

Yes, those. If that sticker is not there then they know you tampered with stuff and your warranty is void. Why not use the replacement plan your paid for? Why did you pay for it if you don't plan on using it? Why is this even a thread?

Its not my phone or replacement plan... helping out a friend here...

They've decided to go with using one of those backup external batteries until iPhone 5 actually releases and then use the replacement plan :\

I am happy with my Sensation 🙂

Forgive me for being cynical, but I do hope you're not trying to hide any tampering from prospective buyers.

If you're trying to hide it in hopes of getting it fixed or something, then okay. 😛

Does the replacement plan allow for replacing a 3GS with a 5?!?!

Really?!?!

Nope not to sell the phone! Its the second item 😛

We won't replace the battery now, she is afraid they will notice and void her replacement plan.

Oh, well, you did not mention it was a girl!

Pics or ban.

😉

Honestly, she is not going to be able to game the system for a 4 or 5, so she might as well get a new unit now.
