Ok I have come to the realization that I wont be able to get good OCs out of my stock hs/f on my unlocked 2800+ Barton. So I'm hopefully getting this Volcano 12, and this Arctic Silver 5.

So my questions are: will I get good results with this over my stock hs/f. And, I looked at my processor as it is right now, and I'm not sure if it has paste, or a pad on it. Does anyone know what the stock AXP 2800+ Barton has on it for a thermal layer? And whatever type of thermal protection it has, how can I remove this well? Also, any tips on applying AS5, and the heatsink?

Thanks!

It should be a pad. Clean with 91% isopropyl alcohol, apply thin layer of as5 over cpu core. Anything is better than stock cooling, and your temps should be much lower.

it should cool quite a bit better than stock, but it's a little expensive isn't it. i think this should be quite good http://www.svc.com/pa9c-42cu.html . i think alcohol should easily removed thermal pads. and put enough of AS5 to cover the cpu with a thin layer.

The Volcano 12+ extreme is cheaper at SVC.com, if you're still interested in it. Slap an SP-97 on that chip ;)
:D

*Edit*
Here is the link for the cheaper V12+ btw. Several dollars cheaper than at newegg.
