Replacing HD and need YOUR help, please.

HD seems to be dead. I've got a new one to replace it. Can I simply change these out and then reinstall my Win 98 from my origanal 98 CD? Then install my backup? Can it be that simple? I have no idea how to partition either.
Right now the computer just goes to a black screen at startup, however, I can get into DIR. In DIR everthing is just a scrambled mess! Please clear my confusion. Appreciated! 🙂
