replacing hard drive in archos 605

I have an archos 605 pmp which my daughter dropped and killed the hard drive. I've been searching but sound like I can't do it because Archos store a code on the hard drive and only them can replace which they want $125 for a 30gig hard drive. I was hoping someone here might have some insight or info to other way around it. Thanks all

The 605's are pretty much locked man. You don't have any choice but to pony out. Archos RSA encrypts the SN of the HD to the unit, and thus you can't just do a partition copy with like acronis.

You need a low level writer.
