I have an HP Pavillion 15-p258nl, which came with a pre-installed version of Windows.
Actually, i have Debian on my laptop, and during the installation of this Os i unfortunately deleted the windows
firmware. So i bought the HP Recovery Media so as to have the possibility to reinstall windows, even though I haven't done it yet.
If i buy an ssd and i replace with it the hard disk of my hp notebook, can I at this point use the HP Recovery Disk and start with a new fresh install of Windows ?

ps: with a budget of $140, which 1Tera SSD do you suggest to me ?

Yes, you'll be able to run the recovery media on a new SSD with no problems.

With your budget i'd go with a Samsung, Crucial, or Sandisk Ultra SSD.

...Windows 10, from HP? Seriously?
It's free, dude. The HP included version is crap and has HP bloatware.

I don't go through all this bullsh- to install Linux, I just install Win10 and split the partitions manually myself before loading the install, then install Linux separately on UEFI compatible, or completely disable UEFI and set everything on legacy after you split all the partitions.
Otherwise, if you're touchy-feely, you can run it like this:

I have never known windows 10 to be free......
As a stand alone frswh install on a machine that has had windows 10 completely erased or on a machine that has never had windows 10 installed or any other windows operating system

If your proprietary notebook (eg, an HP, DELL, ACER, etc.) came with Windows 10, then you should be able to reinstall it completely free of charge. All you may need is the product key specific to your unit. (Shouldnt need to be an HP OS version.)

Admittedly I personally havent had to attempt this specifically with WIN10, but in the past, it was true for all other previous MS OS versions on proprietary notebooks.
